Amber and Nicky- I agree with you that this has been a great source of support for me too. I really would have felt alone in this if it weren't for reading what you are all going through. I went off the bromo 2 days ago when I felt very nauseus all the time and dizzy. It was upsetting because I started to slow down the amount of breast milk discharge I've had and I really want to become regular again but I just couldn't take the side effects. I woke up gagging in the middle of th night and have just started on dostinex tonight. Amber- have you heard of anyone on dostinex become pregnant? The people who wrote on here that they were succesful I think were all on bromo? So you are trying to get pregnant too? I'm 37 and thankfully my husband has been very supportive. I can't believe you were on bromo for 2 years!!

I get regular periods and I'm not trying to get pregnant. but I noticed a milky discharge from my nipples the same day I had my period this month. I thought I was pregnant! I'm really new to this problem and not everything makes sense yet. Doc said it doesnt look serious and its nothin to worry about cos its a minimal discharge, besides I'd been taking Immunizen as a supplement which contains colostrum, maybe thats the culprit. Minimal discharge is still there. But I just want to know - does it come with a general feeling of fatigue and tiredness? I get really drowsy and I get mild headaches too, my eyes get tired. I might have to go to another doc for a second opinion.

Carol, It probably isn't a bad idea to start with some basic labs including a CBC, Thyroid panel, and diluted Prolactin level. A breast exam is a good idea too. Normally when you have an excessively high prolactin level, you wouldn't get your period. I am not familiar with the suppliment you are taking. Hopefully it is just the suppliment, but don't let your doctor pass the buck. It doesn't hurt to be a little persistant when you know your body isn't right!!!!

Rachael, I had the same thing happen to me....I would wake up in the middle of the night choking and gagging on vomit! It was horrible. And the reason I was on the Bromo so long was because I wanted to have regular periods sooo bad and wanted to start having children so badly that I didn't want to say anything about it because I didn't know that there was another drug that could do the same thing and wouldn't have these side effects! Finally, my husband told me that I needed to tell the doctor and have something done...and I did. And I am so glad that I did. It just amazes me that I am completely regular now!! First time in a very long while! I have read lots of sucess stories of women getting pregnant on Doxtinex so I am hopeful. Even on the little pamplet that comes with the meds it says that if you are not ready to become pregnant to use other forms of birth control because it can normalize your levels very quickly. With any luck..eh!? :)

Amber: Did your Dr. tell you when to stop the Dostinex once you are pregnant? Do you have a prolactinoma? Are you concerned that you may have to take the Dostinex during pregnancy if your levels are too high? This is what most concerns me.

Amber-I am concerned about Dostinex and pregnancy. I've read some stories of women who have had babies with a brain tumor after being on Dostinex! Has anyone heard of this also. I was reading another site like this one and there were 2 women who got preg on Dos and had babies with a brain tumor. My doc said that there are no real studies to support this either way but that on bromo this does not occur at all and has been widely studied. I started dostinex last night since I couldnt tolerate bromo but am nervous about staying on it while pregnant or leading up to pregnancy. Any thoughts?

My prolactin level was 21.5.I dont have my period last month of June,2005 and that was the first I have amenorrhea,For the month of July my period came back.My question is... if my period goes back to regular as what I have before for the last 20 years it means tha my prolactin level is at the normal level? What factors contributes to increase prolactin level aside from pituitary gland problem? I dont take any medications.Do you think physical or psychological stress would contribute to increase prolactin level? How about the food we eat? Please answer to [email protected]. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Yeah, I have a history of high prolactin, I used to take parlodel, before dostinex was introduced. I took dostinex four times ( once a week ) and after 7 years of no pregnancy/period I was pregnant. That was over 6 years ago, my son is turning 6 in November. Since then i started having cycles on my own, I've been pregnant twice since then, but have miscarried both. I have never in my life had a 28 day cycle, but with each pregnancy it seems now I do, and my prolactin level checked out normal a few months ago. The body is amazing. I am now on progesterone b/c of the miscarriages.....awaiting either period or pregnancy. I am 3 days late today, but I've heard that's due to the progesterone suppositories(prochieve 8%) I so want to be pregnant, but so far negative test. Doc is having me wait till AF is a week late and they will do a blood test.....have any of you had a positive that far out after a negative 3 days past?

Rachael I just wanted to let you know that I was on Dostinex when I got pregnant and now I am about sixteen weeks along. Dostinex was great for the fact you only had to take it twice a week and I did not have any side affects. For Amber and Nicky and all those others that are getting so sick on Bromocriptine, which I learned is Parlodel, should definetely try Dostinex. It is a little costly but I think the benefits outweigh the costs. And most importantly I was able to get pregnant which is very important to alot of you. I am not on Dostinex right now I stopped in June. I do know that if you are on the medicine while pregnant you cannot breastfeed. Other than that I do not know how high the levels can get before they are dangerous and they place me back on the medicine. I will keep everyone updated how the pregnancy goes and I hope all of you who want to get pregnant will have the same success.

Hi, Amber & Nicky
I believe in God and I just feel like I will have a girl that's all. But if I get pregnant and it's a boy I will be just as happy. I am praying. and hope that because I am on both Bromocriptin & Dostinex we will have a baby soon. I go back to my doctor on Friday July 29 to see how my levels are.

I have been advised by my doctor to stop taking Doxtinex once I become pregnant. I didn't realize that it may or may not be linked to brain tumors in children! That's something I will look into! I am a bit concerned that I may not be able to breastfeed as that was something I was really hoping to do. But if I can't I'll just have to deal with that. What are the physical effects of high prolactin when pregnant?? I realize that it does go up naturally when you become pregnant but what happens when it gets too high??

Hey Bridgette,
Check out this website.....it's a fun way to "predict" baby genders. I have checked a lot of my family and friends and they were ALL correct!!!

Rhonda-
I am veryhappy to hear your success story. I want to try to stay positive and your story was very reassuring. I was you a wonderful pregnancy and am happy for you even though I don't know you. I am already feeling better onthe Dostinex than I did on Bromo.
