Hi jlp, that's great, congrats on your little one. I did have an MRI, and I have an microadenoma. The meds work well & my prolactin is now in the normal ranges & my periods are beginning to get regular. My day 3 bloodwork I just had was FSH-6, prolactin-14, LH-9. Because of my LH spiking at the wrong times, my dh & I are trying IVF. Back in Dec, I was getting ready to try IUI with clomid but again by LH spiked to 14 on day 8. So it was a no go for the IUI. I'm getting a cyst rechecked this week & hopefully everything will be a go for the IVF.

im so glad to find a site like this. i am 26 was diagnosed with pit tumor in 2001 my prolactin levels were in the 100s i was on bromocriptine which made me sick, loose weight cause i was not hungry. i am now on dostinex for about 5 years now and love it my prolactin is in normal range. i stop taking it for 3 months and it goes back up in the 50 and i go back on it. i want to get pregnant now but am not sure how i will do my specialist needs to look at results and stuff and let me know what to do. like change meds or what and answer all my questions like will it take long, will i be able to, will i have complications ect.... if im off birth control i dont get my periode so how does that work? if anyone has been through this, meds and pregnancy please give me some encouragement. thanks

Hi letitia, I too have high prolactin levels which are in the normal ranges now due to the med I'm on. Once your prolactin gets to the normal ranges again I would imagine your cycles should become regular. Last month was the 1st time on many months my period came when it was suppose too. I figured my prolactin levels were lowering & I had bloodwork to recheck it & sure enough it was at 14. I have to stay on bromocriptine until I'm pregnant & the doctor will decide if I should take it longer or stop it all together. DH & I are getting ready to do IVF. I'm waiting for my next period to start so I can begin the BC pills. We've been TTC for almost 4 yrs now. We tried IUI last Dec, but it was cancelled b/c my LH spikes too early in my cycle. So in the end we decided to go right into IVF. I'm 32 & I don't want to wait any longer.

thanks sara. i will probably have to go on bromocriptine too before trying for kids. im waiting for an answer from my specialist and then going off the birth control in july. my friends cousin has the same problem and she had been trying to conceive for a while and ended up having to do surgery to remove the tumor and then finally got pregnant after. i hope i dont need that.
and for V's question: i had high prolactin levels because i have a pit tumor and i take meds (dostinex) to lower the prolactin, i havent been trying to conceive yet so i dont know how it will be for me, im trying this summer.

Letitia I to have a Put Tumor and was TTC on Bromo and it never happen. My levels in Feb were 117 and my doctor put me on Dostinex for 2 mos., I just took a pregnancy test and it was positive. So my advice to you is come of the BC but stay on the Dostinex if you are TTC. Good Luck! It happen for me I know it will happen for you.

I was dx with high prolactin around March. My MRI came back normal. My dr wanted to redraw my prolactin to make sure it wasn't a lab error, and I am calling the office tomorrow to see what that one was. My symptoms are: irregular cycles (usually have about 8 periods a year or less), very painful breasts/nipples, ? ovulation, recurrent ovarian cysts, bad pms (raging right before period), and infertility. We have not used ANY protection since May 2003, and I have never been pregnant. I also have never had regular cycles. My next appt is Tuesday and I'm going to ask about med for high prolactin. I'm so glad I found this site because nobody I have talked to has ever heard of high prolactin. Thanks for letting me share.

Ok, I just came from my endo and I told him about my 2 miscarriages. The first one I stopped taking my carbergoline (Dostinex) as soon as I found out which was around 6w 3d, by 6w 5d I bleed and m/c naturally at 11 weeks. So I vowed that I would continue my meds when I got pregnant again, so when I found out in May that I was pg again I continued taking it. Well I miscarried at 5w 1d. So now my endo to stop taking carbergoline as soon as I get pregnant. At first it confused me bec. I thought I need the meds so that my prolactin stays low and progesterone stays high and he said prolactin will get high any during pregnancy....I don't know. I'm still confused. I think I will stop taking my meds and see since with my last 2 pregnancy I was taking it and i m/cd. Lucky I started taking and charting my temps so i know when I'm supposed to test. What do you all thinK? Please reply as I check this board periodically. Thank you

Hi it is true that prolactin levels go up naturally during pregnancy, i agree it is confusing, i have been told to stop taking dostinex 1 month before trying to concieve but if i miss even a couple of tablets my level shoots up again therefore preventing me from concieving anyway. To be honest from all my research on this most places say that dostinex is not the medication of choice if you are planning on concieving and that you should use bromocriptine which is safe during pregnancy. Im going to ask to be switched to this next time i see my endo in august so will let you know what she says.

Liz1968 - July 4

Thanks antoniac. I didn't even think to ask to be switched to bromocriptine, although I have really bad memories of the side effects. The side effects were really bad for me, but then I was in my 20's and weighed 60 lbs. less. Maybe now with my hefty weight, the meds won't affect me so much. We'll see. I'm trying natural progesterone that I apply nightly from cd 12-26. I got the shipment late so I started on cd 16 and will continue til cd 26. Hope the progesterone helps. Thanks again for reply and let me know what you endo tells you.
