10 days of spotting in middle of Cycle?????

Hi, I was supposed to get my period on Nov.26th; however I had brown spotting and light bleeding for 9/10 days, 11 days before I was supposed to get my period. I had an HSG (when they shoot dye into uterus and fallopian tubes to see if any blockages - and there was on one side - oh well) on day 11 and normally you have a little blood discharge for 3 days, but then I had 7 days without any spotting or discharge. I'm quite confused as well. I took a preg test yesterday, which was 4 days after I was supposed to get my period and it was negative. I'm using the ovulation test strips, but I have no idea!!
