I had 3 miscarriages before my doctor put me on metformin. I am not diabetic, but my doctor prescribed it anyway. It made me extremely ill and I had to go to the hospital. At the hospital I found out I was pregnant!!! I had my baby girl in Dec of 04. I got pregnant again without using the metformin last month (July 05) and I miscarried again....Coincidence or does it really work???

I have been on metaformins 4 months now, taking 500mg 3 times a day, still havent concieved so far, if you like we can talk though email if you like. But Yes the metaformin is a form of meds GYno's will put women tryingto concieve on, to better the hormone level , and it has helped many concieve so far. I get the fibiliosis cyst on my ovaries from time to time lack of my eggs releasing as they need to. By I am going back to DR. today and they are suppost to be puting me on a fertility pill to help. Perhaps askign your DR. about the fertility pill as ewll may be what would interest you [email protected]

Hi everyone, i was wondering if i could join???? I started taking metformin for about 2 weeks. I've been trying to concieve for 7 months now with no luck. I was just diagnoised with pcos two weeks ago when i started taking the medication. i guess my LH level is 22.3 which is high. Just over the past few months i was told i probably wasn't ovulating. I'm taking 500mg once a day for two months and if still nothing he (my dr) is going to put me on clomid and metformin to see if that helps. I'm really hoping that this month it works. i know it puts stress on my other half bc he feels like he is doing somthing wrong. everyone around me got pregnant and now my best girlfriend likes to rub it in my face that she's almost due and with a girl. that's what i want. i guess wish me luck. baby dust to all of you!

My doctor recommended Metformin as well, but after reading up on the possible long term side effects I chose not to take it. I have PCOS but no insulin resistence and no weight problem. There is a natural herb called vitex agnus castus that is suppose to have the same result as metformin. Look into it and decide for yourself.

Amanda - September 8

what kind of long term side affects????

stef - September 8

Can anyone tell me what kindof of side effects they had while taking metformin and for how long?/ My last normal period was june 22nd. I started provera and bleed for aug 19th to the 24th. I started taking my medication on the 30th. however i already felt funny before i even started. I'm starting to get really sick as each days passes. Its day 10 now and i felt worse today then when i first started taking it. I have no upset stomach, little crampy but not like period cramps. no diaherra??? Alittle bloated? the nurse said i could've already gotten pregnant bc the medication shouldn't react to that especially b/c i'm only taking 500mg once a day. And i never really knew when i ovulated. can anyone relate???

TRYING IN OKC - September 12

I WAS PUT ON METFORMIN, BACK IN APRIL. WHEN NOTHING SEEMED TO BE HAPPENING THE DR. HAD ME START CHARTING MY TEMPS SO THAT WE COULD SEE IF IT WAS HELPING ME TO OVULATE. WHEN IT SHOWED THAT IT WAS NOT DOING ANYTHING FOR ME HE COMBINED IT WITH CLOMID. THIS IS MY FIRST CYCLE WITH BOTH OF THE DRUGS. LETS HOPE THAT THEY WORK AND I DON'T HAVE TO GO ANY FURTHER WITH THIS WHOLE THING.

Amanda - September 12

hey trying in OKC... im in the same situtation as u... i have one more day of clomid 100mg.. and i am taking metformin 500mg a day for a week and then 1000mg a day until my doctor tells me to stop.. im keeping my fingers crossed.. good luck to u ..

Kristen - September 13

I was put on Metformin in May and found out I was pregnant in August. It didn't take long at all.

Carol - September 13

Hi Kristen! I'm glad to hear that your pregnant while taking on Metformin. I have been on it for almost two months now but still no signs of preg. I wonder how long you have taken the Met before you got pregnant. Thank you.

SERENA - September 13

I also have PCOS and started metformin 1000mg per day on Sept 9. Has anyone had success in getting pregnant with only 1000mg per day? from what i have read it seems like most are on a higher dosage. I know everyone is different but is there any time period that I should be expecting to get my period?

Mel - September 13

I have been diagnosed with PCOS and just started taking 1500 mg a day - I am sooooo tired my stomach feels upset but I just feel as though I want to sleep all the time
