Hi SherryZ! I started Saturday and was really upset. I am going for bloodwork Monday too, and my HSG is at 3:00 on Friday. I have no clue if it will be the water or oil. How nice to know I won't be alone in my experiences this week though! Take care.

MollieM-I would wait and see if the Clomid helps. Also, have you tried Metformin?...My friend and sis are taking it and it is supposed to help with PCOS.

Soup 25, it's nice talking to someone who seems to be going through the same thing I am at the same time. I went for my bloodwork this morning. My RE also scheduled a post coital test and an ultrasound for Monday the 16th. It was actually a positive feeling this morning getting my bloodwork. I feel like we're on the path to discovering something, or at least, knowing the next step to take!!!

My HSG is scheduled for 1:00 on Thursday (July 12th), just a quick question from those who have had an HSG, do you think I'd be able to go back to work after? What should I expect? TIA ~ Kristin

Hey Kristin, I also went back to work after my HSG. The HSG was certainly uncomfortable, but it really wasn't as bad as I though it would be. I would suggest bringing a pad or making sure the facility you are having your HSG done at offers them. Unfortunately, some of the iodine comes back out afterwards. Good luck!

first of all - thank you to everyone that has posted on here! i go in for my first hsg test in two weeks, and i've heard that it is the most painful experience, so i've been nervous... i was not aware of how many people actually get pregnant within a few months of the procedure!!! we've been ttc for over a year now, and my husband's "boys" are above average in every way, and i'm healthy, though slightly over weight (which i highly recommend the south beach diet for!)... i'm not ovulating apparently... the doctor has me going on birth control until the test to make it easier... any other advice from the wise and weary and/or fortunately pregnant?

Hi Navywife, I actually just had my HSG (CD9 for me) - it truly was so easy. I honestly think my CD1 period cramps are waaayy worse than the HSG. My appointment started at 1:00 right on-time. The Dr used an oil-based dye (no particular reason he said). Hopefully this is not TMI - but the proceedure started w/ the metal speculum, then the Dr used a cleaning solution for my cervix maybe for a minute). Next he told me I'd feel a little cramping when he inserted the catheter. It was a mild/slightly medium cramp at most - lasted about 10 seconds max. Since the catheter was in, he removed the metal speculum. Then they moved the xray machine over me, and placed about 3oz of solution (maybe 2 tbsp) into the catheter and let me watch it on the xray. It was very cool to see. I'm soo thankful that it ran right through and spilled out on each side. He had me turn a few ways but none of it was uncomfortable. After that (takes about 2 mins?) you're done. He removed the catheter (felt nothing) and I was out another 10 minutes later to my car. Here's my advise ~ I took 2 advils (ibuprofin) at 12, and another 2 @ 12:30. I also did some nice breathing, even though my heart was going a mile a minute (just to know if the tubes are blocked or if they're good),. Personally, and I do numbers & finance and am no way a doctor, but I'm not sure why the dr would put you on birth control for 2 weeks before. DH & I didn't BD CD1 - 9 (easy because 5 dys are my period), and they made me take a Beta yesterday to ensure I'm not pregnant. The reason I say this is because you do have an increased chance of becoming pregnant after the proceedure. It would be a bummer to miss that chance because you still have the pill in your system, need to get regulated etc after. Personally, I'd skip the pill and go for it :) Smile, Baby Dust & HTH :)
PS ~ Catherine - thank you for all the encouragement above, it was really sweet and helped me relax!

ooh and I was back to work by 1:45; no cramps at all, just with the catheter being inserted. Other than that, it was not bad at all. good luck !

Hey Kristin - nothing is ever TMI as far as I'm concerned! I'm hellbent against the BC but the nurse was telling me that since the next available appointment is after CD14, the BC is only to keep me/my cervix from clamping down and tightening up--I'll actually stop taking it the day before the HSG... Has anyone else ever heard of this??? It would really suck to miss the opportunity of being so fertile... but military doctors are not always the best... ya know? What do you think?

UPDATE - an old family friend of mine has been an OB nurse for 18 years now... and she just told me that the BC will keep your cervix soft and open, so that the dye can flush through your tubes easier.... and that since I will be on it for such a short time, it will not affect the following three months - if anything, it will cause me to ovulate twice.

hi! I went for the HSG and it was not bad at all. The worst cramp I felt (which wasn't even that bad) was when the Dr. clamped the cervix to hold it still so he could put the catheter inside. The cramping was very mild, less than a period for sure. Breathe. Stay calm. Take some Motrin before. Everything was fine on mine and it was neat to watch the dye on the screen. SherryZ-How was your HSG?

Hey Soup! Glad to hear from you! My hsg went well. I posted a question on Sat. but never got a response. When the dr. injected the dye it stayed stationary at the bottom of my cervix for about 10-15 seconds. My dh was sitting behind the dr. and said he saw the dr. pushing on the tube pretty hard. ( I could feel it!! OUCH!) After about 15 seconds the dye rushed into my uterus and tubes. He said everything looked great. As I was dressing in the bathroom, my dh was having a discussion with the dr. He said the dr. told him it looked like I had blockage, but the dye cleared it up! He said maybe it was cervical mucus. I'm praying that is why I haven't fallen pg. Hopefully my dh's sperm can now swim freely!!!! I had BAD cramping on Friday night and in to the day Sat. I'm thinking it was from the partial blockage and him pushing so hard to get it unblocked. I'm feeling much better today!! I am so happy to hear everything went well with you. Maybe this will be our month! I've heard the hsg can help. Keep me posted!
