Pregnancy after HSG

I just thought I should add my experience from my last HSG... I didn't think it was very painful, but just like AF cramping. The problem was that I bled very heavily right after the test, which I did not expect at all. It was scary, but I was fine!

To, the person who wrote "to KTL and others on July 6". Sorry, I just saw your post or I would have written sooner. Just thought I would let you know, I am 38 years old too. I also know how you feel about not getting pg the month after the HSG. Because I got pg the month after my first HSG (but m/c), I expected the same thing after the second HSG. When I was not pregnant the month after the HSG, I cried my eyes out for two days convinced my last chance short of IVF was gone. The next month I got my + result. I am now 6 weeks pg and I go for an ultrasound tomorrow so I really hope things are okay this time. So far my levels look great, much higher than last time. You are not too old. Has your doctor checked your FSH? You might ask your doctor to switch to Femara instead of Clomid, my doctor says in their office they are statistically seeing more Femara babies than Clomid babies. Also if you are going to a regular gyno instead of a specialist, I would suggest a fertility specialist particularly before you have an invasive test like a laprascopy. Wait until you are ready to do the laprascopy, if you don't feel it is right trust your gut. When I didn't get pg the month after the HSG, my doctor gently suggested that due to my age it was time to move to IVF, or if I wasn't ready for that at the very least try one cycle of injectibles to see if I thought I could do IVF and then move to IVF as my chances at IVF were very good now, but would go down the older I got. I said I wanted to try at least one more Femara and IUI cycle while I thought about whether I could go through IVF and while I still had 2 months left of HSG benefits. Good thing I did! Look what happened!
Brenda- From your previous posts, it doesn't look like you have tried Clomid or Femara yet. I wouldn't even think about trying IVF ( which like you I am terrified of) before trying those. Like you, my cycle was normal, but my doctor still used these drugs first because even if you are normal they can up your chances by creating an extra follicle and by regulating anything in your cycle that may be slightly off. For me, I ovulated a day or 2 later on the drugs, which probably gave the follicles a little more time to develop.

Hi, I'm new here, hope you don't mind me joining you? I had a hsg test done today, and while it wasn't the most pleasant of experiences it wasn't as bad as having a baby which I would do willingly given the chance again!!

I have 2 children already aged 13 and 11 from my prevous marriage - we have been TTCing for over a year with no luck - I had a m/c in January. I'm 37 and worried my eggs are too old now, but won't give up just yet!

The good news is my tubes are clear, so I really do hope and pray that I get pregnant now this month, it would be worth the pain of the hsg 10 times over if I do.

Good luck to everyone else and thanks for all your inspiration.

I had an HSG in June and was afraid to test
b/c I have seen my share of BFN's over the past three years but I got up the nerve today and it was positive! I had AF like cramps and sore bbs for almost the whole time after Oing. My hormone panels were normal and my HSG looked fine to my Dr. but it had to help no doubt in my mind. I just hope everything else is ok from here on out! good luck to all.

That's fantastic news, congratulations! How long have you been TTC if you don't mind me asking, and did you get pregnant in the cycle in which you had your HSG or the next one? Sorry about all the questions but I'm really hoping that what I've been through today will make a difference

KTL - July 14

Congratulations Lor! Good luck Loubie! I know lots of people that have gotten pregnant at our age, I bet you have some eggs in there that are just fine! I go for my first ultrasound with my HSG baby today. I am terrified because that's when we found out things were bad last time.

Thank you so much for your kind words and how does the ultrasound goes?
My FSH level was not checked. During my 1st visit to the fertility specialist in June, the HSG was carried out. As the right tube is not seen, he ask me to go for laprascopy if I did not preg in June. Since I would want to try naturally for 2 cycle after HSG, thus I would go for the laprascopy in July/Aug. Are you saying that you got pregnant the 2nd moth of HSG with femara and IUI?

I had my HSG las month on 7/23 and I am due for my period some time this weekend. Im confused now because yesterday I thought I had started my period because I started spotting and now today theres nothing. I thought for sure I would continue. this has never happended to me and Ive never heard of a 1Day period. Can anybody help im confused and dont know whats really happening. Has this happened to anybody else????

KTL - July 15

Yes. I did not get pregnant the month I had the HSG either time. The first time I got pg the month after the HSG with no drugs. This time, I did not get pg until the second month after the HSG and I was on Femara. The doc said yesterday he believes for whatever reason the HSG is probably what did it for me both times. The ultrasound went great. The doc says the baby has a strong heartbeat and right now all signs indicate this will be a healthy normal pregnancy.

I got pregnant the same month I had the hystersalpyngogram. I think it openes up your cervix and so it is easier to get pregnant. My doctor gave me a small chance of getting pregnant and then I got pregnant. I then had a miscarriage but at least I know i can get pregnant now.

Hi Amy. We have been trying for a baby for over 3 years. We are only 25, and married for 6 years, but no luck. We have done everything: charting, sperm count, HSG, Clomid, and HCG. Actually I had the HSG done in May. Started Clomid in June. Second round starting July 3. Just today had an HCG shot. Under doctor's orders to have intercourse everyday this weekend. Woo-hoo! The doctor told me it cleans everything out, but it didn't do anything for me. The doctor said that if this month doesn't produce positive results, the next time we will probably do IUI. I am hoping that this takes, as up to now, everything has been free (thank God for military insurance)....however, even the IUI is relatively inexpensive for us. We just hope that this all works out. I never thought it would be as frustrating as it is, but sometimes things just don't work out when we want them too, do they? Good luck with everything!

Kristen, I hope this isn't too much to ask...but I was wondering how far along were you when you miscarried after the Hystersalpingogram (HSG)? I have heard of this happening to other women as well.

Hi All,
i am 30 years old and i have never gotton prego. I went to my doc to check my self i first did a blood work up just got results today saying that everything was fine. Now all i am waiting for is hsg. Just broke my with my boyfriend after three years what luck . Anyways even though we broke it off i am still curious to see what is wrong with me. If my blood work was fine does that mean that i am ovulating?

Babs - July 18

Geegee...I too had blood work done before my HSG...the fact that the blood work came back "normal" does not mean that you are ovulating or that you are ovulating regularly. From what I learned, the only way that could be determined would have been to be put on Clomid (or a drug similar) and be monitored every other day via ultrasound to check for ovulation. Good luck!

mamaj - July 19

I went for my HSG on 7-1-05, and had a series of test run on my husband and myself. We got the results that everything is normal except my progesterone. The doctor stated that my body can not support a pregnancy, and wants me to start clomid. Has anyone been successful having the HSG and then taking clomid? I am 31, and nervous about Clomid. I have a 12 year old.... I wish it was as easy as the first time.

Johanna - July 19

Im still positive spirited about this whole thing, even though my period came down this month. Thanks for the info. yall were right. I cramped like never before. and Pamprin was not helping. Today I took my husbands lab test to the hosp. I think im more nervous than him about the results. And I have an appt w the Dr. in like 2 weeks on Aug 2nd, Hope every thing goes well. Im going to an infertility Dr that has a high success rate of IUI pregnancies. I still have 2 more months to depend on the HSG working. My fingers are crossed for me and all of you chicas out there in the same boat as me.
