I just had my 2nd HSG this afternoon.... My first one was over 3 years ago when I was having trouble conceiving with my first son - and I got pregnant that month! I'm hoping the HSG from today will have the same results.
I did not hear that you need to wait a week....so I'm not waiting (and I didn't with my first pregancy either). Good luck to everyone...I'll post my results after June 16th which is when my period is due.

YES! I did. I am 40yo. I was trying for over a year. I took the HSG test and the result came that I may have had a blocked tube or it could be that my muscles contracted at the time. A doctor wanted to do laparoscopy to check it out before I would try in vitro. I questioned the results and refuse to have laparoscopy only for an investigation of this possibility. I took another HSG test, it came all normal,my tubes were unblocked AND... I got pregnant right after it. The liquid they insert to take the HSG test cleans the tubes and uterus and lubricate them. It makes one more fertile for a couple of cycles. a normal pregnancy saved me $17,000, as I did not need an in vitro. My little healthy boy is 3 months old now

Just a question, does anyone knows the name of the liquid used for HSG? Just curious as I'll be doing mine on Monday. So wish me luck.

Hi May. What I have researched on my own is that it contains a little bit of iodine and this was confirmed by my doctor when I asked him what solution he is using. Need more info abt HSG you can go to this website...http://www.asrm.org/Patie
nts/FactSheets/hsg.pdf#search='HSG'
Good luck!

I had an HSG done last month and everything was clear (thank goodness). It wasn't nearly as painful as what I had anticipated - nothing more than a pap smear. I took Motrin about an hour and a half before hand and was prescribed an antibiotic afterward. Our doctor explained that the HSG is not meant to increase fertility but might help in some cases where the falopian tubes are blocked as it can sometimes clear the blockage. This is our second month on the Letrozole which we are using in conjunction with IUI this month (last month was just timed intercourse). I just had the IUI done this morning. I go back in a week to check progesterone and then a week after that for a pregnanct test if I don't get my period by then. Best of luck to everyone!

I just had an HSG today. It hurt like crazy while I was doing the actual test, but now 7 hours later, I have normal menstral cramps. I have become very hopeful reading all of your messages. I am hoping for a positive test this month. I should be ovulating within the next 5 days. Wish me luck!!!

Hi everyone, I enjoyed reading every post. It's amazing what some of us has to go through. I have had two tubal's. One in '01and the other last year. I'm going to get my HSG test done on 6/10 and I'm very excited. My cycle started on 6/02 so it will be the 9th day of my cycle. I need all the prayers I can get. Babs, you really gave me hope after reading your posts and please keep me updated on your wonderful pregnancy. I'm 26yo and never thought I would have to actually plan a pregnancy, but I'm sure everything will work out fine and very soon. I'm trying to stay positive but I'm also anxious and scared about the pain. I plan on taking 2 Motrin 800's, and hopefully I will feel no pain. I hate getting pap's so I know this will probably feel the same. My email is [email protected], if anyone wants to chat. Thanks for listening.

As I mentioned earlier, I had two HSG tests. They were not painful at all. I took Motrin one hour before and kept taking it afterwards. The keys is to relax. Painful is trying to conceive and not get it. Everything else is a piece of cake. This was the attitude that I had and it heps a lot. This is also the case when you get into labor, as I hope you will all experience soon.
I would like to share with you how I got pregnant after HSG, I hope this is helpful: After each of the HSG tests that I took, my cycle was very different. The first time it was very long and I did not detect ovulation using clear blue (I gave up on the 18th day and probably ovulated right after). The second time my period was very short and I ovulated on the 10th and got pregnant. This time I used an ovulation predictor other than clear blue and it did not detect ovulation either. I kept testing every day and on the 20th I got a positive for ovulation. I really thought that I got pregnant on the 20th for a long time during pregnancy, but every time the ultrasound would indicate that the baby was older and that I conceived on the 10th of my cycle (the positive for ovulation on the 20th was due to the fact that I was already pregnant, according to my obgyn). I had my baby on the exact due date, counting from the 10th. So, my advice is that you try intercourse every other day to maximize your chances to conceive after the HSG test -- your cycle can be affected by it and you may miss ovulation otherwise. Good luck

First I'd like to say...I'm happy to find you all here. I'm not alone anymore. I had a baby girl 14 years ago but I was 6 month preg and she didn't make it. I haven't been pregnant since. I'm 36 now and I've had 2 HSG's, clomid treatment, a laparoscopy and a hysteroscopy. My last HSG was Friday and I am remaining hopeful. The surgeries I've had concluded that both my tubes were blocked..however..I went to a wonderful facility that has been able to unblock tubes by a special type of massage therapy. So, we wanted to see how successful they were! I'm praying for myself..I'm praying for all of you!!!

Amanda - June 5

Hi Sheylahh. I hope you will have some good news soon. What type of massage therapy did you get. What exactly did they do?

Sheylahh - June 6

Hey Amanda! I went to a facility in Gainesville, Florida..I live in NYC. If you go in into www.clearpassage.com
you'll learn all about it. They fixed so many other issues I had that I didn't think could be fixed so I'm really hoping they were able to unblock my tubes! I'll go into more detail if you write me at [email protected]!

I had the hsg test done today and yes it hurt but not for long and it was bearable. The good news is that my tubes are fine and they said I should have sex as regular as I can as there is an increase in fertility after the test. Thanks to this site I was a lot more prepared for it than I would have been had I not read up. I took 2 ibprofen prior to going and I think that help relax the muscles. good luck to you all xx

I also had an HSG done 3 months ago. I am on my second month of clomid and I just went through my second uterine insemination. I am 35 and had been trying to conceive for over 2 years with one miscarriage over 1 year ago. It is beyond frustrating when doctors don't seem to find anything wrong with you. I am hopeful that I will get pregnant and wish everyone else who is trying lots of luck and blessings.

I had an HSG on May 4. It was terrible- very sever cramping, bleeding, sick to my stomach- ewven thought it appeared everything was open. But I ovulated on May 9 and got pregnant. I had a positive home pregnancy test on May 25 and had it confirmed with a blood test. My husband and I had been trying for 9 months and were about to start all the fertility drugs... I believe that perhaps my tubes were blocked and this HSG "unclogged" them. I have a history of BV and believe this had something to do with it. Anyway, I have been cramping a lot for the past week but no blood. Does anyone know if this is normal? I have my first real appointment with my OBGYN on June 23. Any thoughts would be so helpful. I'm scared and have never been through this.
