miscarriage after birth control

My research online says that a lot of women will miscarry their first pregnancy after going off of the pill. My husband and I have a 2 year old and we tried about 6 months ago to have another one but lost it. We are wanting to try again. How long after I stop taking my birth control should we wait so that I don't risk miscarrying and/or what steps can I do to help ensure this one is healthy
