I have had type 1 diabetes for over a year now, and started on metformin about 6 weeks ago. Although it is a diabetes drug, my obgyn started me on it to stimulate ovulation. I had stopped taking the pill in July after my wedding, but only had 2 periods between then and January. The only thing is that it gave me awful headaches and nausea, so I have been inconsistent. I am really anxious to get pregnant and have already had a few false alarms. Does anyone know what other symptoms of pregnancy there are other than missing a period? My periods are still not quite regular, so I can not rely on that. Here's to hoping we all are successful soon!

I began takin the Metformin 1 day past ovulation on the cycle I got pregant, and yes, I'm still taking 1000mg of Metformin. I just took my gluclose screening test today to check for gestational diabetes--hope that's negative.

Cheri. My side effects lasted about a month but I started on 500mg for a week then went to 1000mg for a week then 1500mg so you taking 1500mg straight away is alot and will be alot for your body to get used to. I found that having breakfast before taking the first tablet helped. Stick with it hun it does get better.
As for doing a pregnancy test - I am under the impression that the earliest you can do one is the first day of your missed period.

Alex. Thanks for responding, well im going to start taking only 1000mg a day instead of 1500, I havent got my period and im 9 days late but negative p test so im lost! I do have irregular periods but I was told Metformin would actually regulate them(not sure) my las period was jan 19. How long have u been trying with your hubby? and how long have u been on Metf? trying to make a baby is very tiring dont u agree? lol please write back good luck n god bless

We have been trying since we got married in July 2004. I was put on metformin in November. My periods we about 35 days long, my last 2 cycles have been 34 & 32. I am monitoring ovulation with the kits (ordering them on the internet is MUCH cheaper). Last month I showed to be ovulating on day 14, however I ovulated again on day 19 for 4 days. Its all a mystery! I think it takes a while for Metformin to regulate your cycles, I was also told that Metformin helps to produce healthy eggs. Are you ovulating? Its frustrating when you are late and know you are not pregnant because you are then waiting fo a period to be able to start a cycle again. And 'Yes' it is tiring...but fun!!! Love and luck to all x

Im not too sure when im ovulating but I here its 2 weeks after your period, I have read that when your ovulating you get a thick discharge and ive had that so well see, I try almost every day with my b/f but I need some time off too :) but its worth the work lol yeah its hard when u miss a period and have some signs of pregnancy then test and find out your not. But I hear it takes about 10-14 days too really know if your pregnant and whats crazy is that I had a friend that missed her period for 4 months and took a pregnancy 4x and they were negative with no symptoms 5 months she found out she was pg, so u never know. So has anyone found out about if its safe or safer to be on metformin while pregnant? oh yeah Alex do those ovulating kits really work? and is there just one tst you take everyday to find out if ovulating? ty good luck

Hallo everyone, I am doing by BBT chart and It seems that I have ovulated at the day 21 of my cycle and now I am in the day 34 of my period (that is 13 days after ovulation) I am having some back ache and also stomache problems but I just took a pregnancy test this morning and it was negative ? can anyone give me an advice on this ? did I take the test early ? Is it possible that I am pregnant but the test was too early ? thanks for your help

Celine, I was told that two days after your period was due u should take a test, but I heared that there is a 10-14 day window meaning, say you are unproted (trying) u cant test right away because if u were ovulating the egg and sperm need to climb and it can take days so I would wait because u may be pregnant hope this made sense g luck

Yeah I would def wait, you never know but as for me I have tested neg but no period but im not sure if its just cuz my periods are usually irregular, there are so many things that confuse me, and also I read on the pregnancy test that if you have a cyst that it can mess with the pregnancy test (making it inacurrate) but I need to still find info. I hear from alot of people that with this medicine that when u least expect it it will happen, so for me I am always wondering maybe Im pregnant cuz this or that, sometime Ill feel nausea or even a craving and then ill run and test but then negative! so I am just going to slow down because it is stressful, but it will happen, for both of us so keep on trying girl and I hope the best for ya! oh yeah and since u already been pregnant b4 then thats good! sorry about your mis, but your chances are greater the next time u get pregnant to keep the baby! do u know why u miscarriaged?
