Hi, I haven't been on this site for a while. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who answered my questions about high prolactin and such. I just got my BFP naturally on Friday. My prolactin level was still consistently slightly elevated (below 50) and could have been caused by stress or macroprolactin which do not affect fertility or require meds. RE thinks our mycoplasma bacteria was to blame, the cycle we completed our antibiotics is the cycle I got my BFP. I'm 4 weeks, 2 days. I am due April 13th. Praying it sticks!!! Good luck everyone!

mmelo - I just read your whole post and my obgyn sent me for an MRI in June, the results came back with "suscpicious of a 5mm microadenoma" so they referred me to an endocrinologist. He didn't think I had one cuz people with those have very high prolactin levels, in the hundreds. He then checked me for PCOS through testosterone and glucose tolerance test as some women with PCOS have slightly elevated levels (not to scare you). The results came back normal. I am to see him again in October and am to get tested for macroprolactin levels this time, not just regular prolactin. Many people are misdiagnosed with prolactinoma when in reality it is macroprolactin which itself causes no issues whatsoever. My levels never surpassed 50 and I am normally a stressed person and have a stressful job so it was probably caused by stress all along. So you could be right. I just wanted you to know that I got my BFP with prolactin levels recently in the 30s when they should be under 20. The enodcrinologist firmly believed that no medication would be required and I doubted him but I guess he was right. My RE agreed with him too. Good luck!

Hi Rachel,
Congrats!!! That is great news. They called about my MRI today. I think I want to wait another cycle on the dostinex and if it doesn't go down then I'll go. When I had my first MRI 3 years ago my levels were 135 and they found no tumor. I firmly believe this is all stress related. The medication has brought them down below 40 before so I am hoping that this will happen again and I am so encouraged by your BFP @ +/-30!!!

Rachel5,Congratulations,my dear!I wish you all good luck from here on!!! Hi Brooke,Thankyou for your thoughts.Last weekend was a hectic one for me but a much rewarding one.God has blessed me and my DH with a positive test.I found out saturday, went in for a blood test monday and just heard from the docs office that it really is true.I have my first ultrasound on 29th aug(7 week). It is still sinking in,not completely yet though.I am being cautiously happy ,was a long and diffficult road to get here. The only thing I think that did it for me this month was that I prayed every minute of the day.I prayed and prayed.God has answered and I know he will answer all of you wonderful women as well. You were my family in the past few months. The only people I could talk to about my problems were you!!!Thankyou.Mmelo, good luck to you too!!Hoping that things go smooth from here on. I will keep you posted .Jyot.

Jyot - I know how you feel. I will be 5 weeks tomorrow but still so skeptical and nervous that all will turn out okay. I go for an ultrasound in my 6th week, next Thursday. I'm praying for a heartbeat. I barely have any symptoms, just really tired by days end, insomnia, lack of appetite, I rarely get any cramping. My 3 beta levels were all good, they all doubled within 48 hours. We shall see.....

Rachel, thats great that your doc wanted to do an ultrasound in the sixth week. That should put you at a lot of ease. The nurse said that things would be more clear after 8 weeks.I wish they did it after six weeks.I had insomnia in the beginning but not much now.I feel exhausted in the morning, not as much at night.Nauseous when I get hungry .I was constipated last week ,gotten around it now.My cramping has reduced from last week..no real morning sickness as they say. Please let me know what happens at the ultrasound.
Bciervo,how are you doing?Jyot.

Hi everyone,
My prolactin has been monitored for the past 9-10 years by my consultant. I am 28 years old. I had an appointment with my consultant yesterday and although I have been on various medication like bromocriptine and now cabergoline, nothing seems to stop my levels from rising. She explained a normal readng would be 600, but mine varies from 1000 to 1400. I do get my periods (when off contraceptive pill), get the odd headache and very rarely a tiny amount of milk. I asked her if they could increase my dosage, but she said they wanted to do a check on macroprolactin first. Even though i asked her what this meant, the medical terms didn't make much sense to me and i left there feeling quite stressed.
I have tried searching the internet, but theres not much that makes sense to me about macroprolactin. I'm really worried, as i want to have kids in the future but i don't know what this macroprolactin means.
Can anyone please help?
Many thanks
Maria

I'm going for testing of macroprolactin in October. My lab result mentioned something about it and basically states that it has absolutely no bearing on your body. It just means oversized prolactin, also known as "big, big prolactin" and there is absolutely nothing to worry about there. apparently because they are big it can make it appear as though you have prolactinoma but really you don't and medication does not help reduce the levels. My prolactin was hovering around 50, and went test was taken under stricter conditions (like in morning, relaxed, etc) it was around 30 and I'm 5 weeks pregnant. The endocrinologist thinks it is stress related or just macroprolactin.

Thanks for replying Rachel and Congrats on your pregnancy. I am going for the blood test for macroprolactin on Monday and the consultant said she will write to me. I'm kind of scared as i always wonder what they are going to come out with next! Thank you for explaining about macroprolactin, its kind of made me feel better.

HELLO EVERYONE, I HAVE BEEN READING THIS SITE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND WAS VERY EXCITED TO SEE THAT THERE ARE WOMEN OUT THERE THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME. I AM 26 YEARS OLD AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH PITUITARY ADENOMA, WHEN I WAS 22. I FIRST STARTED TAKING DOSTINEX ONCE A WEEK AND MY CYCLES BECAME TO COME REGULARLY. I GOT OFF OF THE PILL AND NOW THAT I AM MARRIED, MY HUSBAND AND I ARE TTC. I WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME AND HAD ANY SUCCESS WITH PROGESTERONE CREAM?

I too just found out that I have high Prolactin levels. My Dr started me on Parlodel which i've been taking for almost a month. I'm glad to have found this site. I didn't realize that this was a common problem. I just had surgery for endometriosis and now my Dr. is trying to get my hormones in order. I did notice though that alot of you who have High Prolactin levlels have low Progesterone. I'm the opposite, I have Low estrogen and High Progesterone. Is anyone else like this?
