Wow! Congrats holland! Wonderful news! You never got a period did you? You really must be shocked! Here's to a happy and healthy nine months! Thanks for your encouraging words. Brooke

holland - July 17

Brooke... you're as shocked as I am... I guess I was enroute to having one and it just happened.... I just can't believe it. My husband is still in shock... needless to say my RE is scrambling to monitor my progress to avoid miscarriage. I guess my levels were lowered enough with Bromocriptine that when I finally DID ovulate on my own... we got pregnant... What it in the world? This truly goes to show that this issue (hyperprolactinemia) can be corrected and you should be able to expect that you will conceive. I"m thinking of you, Brooke- I'll check in to see if there is any good news! I'm not out of the woods yet... that's the scary part.
Thank you for your kind words.

Holland,Congrats!!!Thats awesome!I just got back from vacation and saw this good news.I hope things go well fromm here on.I did not make it this month inspite of having so many good eggs. But your BFP has given me so much reassurance and a new hope that it is possible for me too. Thanks for sharing this with us.Brooke, did you say that the doctor was concerned about the pain on your right side? Do you get it during ovulation and before period? I get the pain on my left and it was actually two days after my IUI.But ususally the pain occurs more on left. Is it the same thing we both have? What did he think it was?I have heard good things about the lap too, best duagnostic tool, etc. We have the same findings, same age and in the same boat. Are you taking it easy until the lap?Take care.

bciervo - July 18

jyot- hey there- yes I am taking it easy- some days i get nervous thoughts about it and other days i am just anxious to get it done to see if anything is found. I've been telling my doc about this right sided achiness for over a year and he never seemed too concerned. But now- since this is the last big test- he started asking me about it- he said the word possible endometriosis- but he doens't feel any in pelvic exams or see it on ultrasounds- however, I guess it can still be there. Who knows! He didn't say a word about the prolactin level, since that went down (even though it hasn't been checked in a couple months)- so I don't know if he's ruled that out or not. I know I should have asked more questions- i tell everyone on here to ask questions! But once the lap was scheduled, which at the time was the last thing I wanted, I just kind of shut down while I was there- I'm not quite throwing up the hands however, I feel as though my doc is stumped. He said all my numbers are excellent- so i think this is really all that's left to do - I have no idea what's coming I think that is why I feel nervous. The HSG wasn't so bad due to being awake and knowing immediately that things were working- but this being knocked out and then waking up and finding out scares me a bit- everyone (including my husband) will know what was found before I do! I just worry that they might say- we had to take out your ovaries or something. I know it's crazy thinking but i'm trying my best to remain calm!! : ) They say that this achiness at ovulation and before a period is "normal" but I all of sudden started getting it- never had it before. And since then, nothing is felt or seen. They acted like I was crazy- but now all of a sudden they are interested. We'll see what happens! I will come on and let you know as soon as I get home and can get on the computer. Hopefully, whatever it is, there is still hope!!! Keep in touch with me- I am here for you!!!

Hey Brooke, is it the OBGYN or RE doing the lap? Another good thing about the lap is that if a problem is detected (say like endo), they can also treat it at the same time. So it is diagnostic and therapeutic. I totally can understand what you are feeling about the not knowing thing but remember that this will give you more info about the problem and treat it too. But my doc said that even if it is endo, you can still get pregnant. Even with normal prolactin levels, the chances of pregnancy and only 20% every month so maybe it is just that and not becoz there is anything wrong with your ovaries or uterus. So try to not worry so much.although it is easier said than done.As much as I can analyse, this probably has been the biggest hurdle in my life so far.I have never wanted anything this much.I guess that is what makes it harder to get.But Brooke,I am positive that motherhood is in store for us and as my DH puts it,that there will be a day we can lauh about all of this.where do you live?I am in Boston. So take care and watch loads of fun movies(takes your mind off things).Do you work ?I think when I am at work,I am so relaxed and I dont let these thought bother me.I hope some of this helps. Thanks for your support and remember that anytime you need to talk,I am here.Jyot.

COngrats Holland - all the best. I got my glucose tolerance test results and they were normal so I don't have PCOS. Apparently slightly elevated prolactin can be a symptom of that. The endo doesn't think I have a pit tumour as the MRI results were not conclusive. He retested my prolactin three times in 20 minute intervals. The first two were slightly elevated and the last was normal. He strongly feels that there is nothing wrong with these levels and that treatment is unecessary and that it would not affect fertility....
I am too see him again in 3 months after going for more prolactin tests but this time lab is to check for macroprolactin which has no influence on the bodies function. We shall see if the fertility specialist agrees or not, I faxed her all the info today.

holland - July 20

Rachel5 and to all of you....My situation was very, very similar... my prolactin was only slightly eleveated with no pit. tumor. My level was 26 after 6 weeks of 2.5 bromocriptine it dropped to 21.6 he upped my dosage to 5 mg. of bromo a day and 4 weeks later I ovulated and became pregnant. So... levels don't even need to be very high to have an effect. What i will say (and I mentioned this before) is to get the specific numbers and results of all your hormone levels. I took those results and compared them to normal femal hormone levels... it made me feel lots better in knowing hyperproalatinemia is what it was. You can tell ALOT by your levels for instance if your FSH is higher than your LH that may mean something...etc. etc.... Those levels hold the true clue. I'm thinking of you all... don't give up.... It WILL HAPPEN... IT Happend to me.. now we're 4 1/2 weeks pregnant... It will work!!!!

Hi Brooke, good luck with your lap today. I am thinking of you and praying that everything goes well. Remember that this is going to give us new info and better the chances of a pregnancy.I am guessing that you may not be able to log in for a few days.Dont know what the healing period after a lap is.Take care.
Hope the otheres are doing well.

Hey there! I came on Saturday and submitted a posting but it never went through, trying again. I felt pretty good after the lap on Friday, I think because we got good news- so it made the whole thing not so bad. My doc found a tiny patch of endo hiding being my vaginal wall on the right side- that is what I've been feeling for two years! He lasered that off and said everything looked perfect. My ovaries and uterus are great and my tubes are clear - (i had a hysteroscopy and a tubal perfusion as well). So, he said he wants us to continue trying this month. He wasn't sure if the little bit of endo was preventing anything- but I am optimistic. It was totally worth doing and I haven't had that much pain at all- just a sore belly- and the gas pain in my shoulders went away after about a day. I feel so much better. Thanks for thinking of me.... jyot, where are you at right now in your cycle.. sorry I've been out of the loop for awhile. Brooke

jyot - August 1

Great!!!I am so glad that it is all good news. You never know, this just might be the month, with your tubes being perfused and the hysteroscopy, your lining must be fresh for a good implantation. I believe that the pregnancy rates are higher the first three months after a lap.So lots of good luck. Encouraging to know that the recovery is painless(just in case I happen to need it in the future. I am in my 2ww of second month on clomid ,HCG trigger and IUI.Going in for a blood test on next monday.I dont feel any different except for a little cramping which I always get. we'll get there some day.Happy BDing this next couple of weeks!!!

bciervo - August 1

jyot- you must be going a little nuts with the waiting! It really is amazing though how so many achieve pregnancy with clomid and IUI combined. I have a great feeling for you and will keep my fingers crossed! Are they monitoring your progesterone at all during this 2 weeks? Who is doing your trigger shots? Your husband? I have to order HCG today for next week- I go in on Monday for the first ultrasound monitoring- I am due to ovulate next Wed- so I assume we will be doing the trigger shot Mon or Tues. Hang in there- Keep me posted. Brooke

Hi ladies,
I am 42 years old. My levels when I started were 125. I was on bromo for 4 months and they came down to 45. My RE thought they were still high but agreed to do my first IUI in April. Didn't work. Took the month of May off but continued to take the bromo. When I re-tested in June, I thought they would have come down some more. To my despair, they had gone up to 71. My RE switched me to dostinex. I tested again last week after 7 weeks of dostinex and there was no change, it was 72!!! I was aiming for another IUI in Sept. Does anyone know how I can help these levels to go down below 30! I am so depressed about this, please help.

jyot - August 2

Brooke,I do the trigger shot myself.Husband is afraid to poke me in my tummy is what he says.I asked my nurse about testing for progesterone on day 21 but she said that my doc believes it is not necessary and that since we do the blood test at 2weeks,at that point they would know whether to give progesterone or not.I am not convinced with that answer but I already asked her twice and got the same answer. Some cycles I feel a temp dip around the 22nd day and also I have benn consistently getting cramps on the 22-23rd day for almost all my past cycles. and I keep thinking that maybe I dont have sufficient progesterone and thats why I feel that. But who knows? My doc wanted to meet after 3 cycles of IUI and clomid. So I guess I'll be meeting him end of aug so I can discuss furthur treatment. what is the usual next step after clomid?I sit injectiles and in what way are they different from clomid.I would say we should have IVF after this so my ovaries are not tortured any furthur.Good luck with the ultrasound.hope there is a good one waiting for you.The ultrasound appointmnet is one of my exciting ones!!
Mmelo, hello and welcome.what was the dosage of dostinex that you are on?and have you had an MRI to rule out any abnormal growth in your pituitary?I was switched from Bromo to dostinex too but dostinex at .5mg a day twice a week did the trick..Sit down with your RE and ask him all your questions.I hope you are not on any other meds coz some meds can up your prolactin levels.Good luck to you!Jyot.

bciervo - August 2

hello mmelo- sorry to hear you are having a tough time with lowering your level. I don't know much about dostinex, I've been on bromo (parlodel) since January. However, usually when the level isn't coming down, the dosage is increased. It's odd that the bromo worked and then it increased back up- i'm surprised your doc just didn't increase the bromo since that had been working and decreased the level originally. I agree with jyot- ask your doc what he-she thinks. With the IUI, I know one of mine was cancelled in Feb right after finding out about the elevated prolactin. It would be a waste of time and money to do an IUI if your prolactin is high. However, there are several women on here that achieved pregnancy without bringing their levels down to normal- (my doc uses a scale of 16 or less as normal) so you never know. I would think 72 is too high to do the IUI and should be lowered a bit more before you do it. I would think they would increase your dosage and check your level every 2 weeks- my level came down to normal in just 3 weeks- so it's possible once you find the right dosage, it will come down quickly for you. Don't give up on this drug- I have been told that sometimes you need to "play" with the dosage to see results. Good luck to you!! Brooke

Hi ladies,
thx for the imput. I am VERY sensitive to medications. When I started on the bromo I was taking one pill a day. This was making me have involuntary movements in my arms and legs. So my RE told me to start taking it vaginally, which toned down the side effects but, not to be too graphic hear the coating on the pills would not dissolve inside of me so every time I got AF the first day I had all this clumping of the coatings being expelled. But it was tolerable I guess. When I came off the bromo I was up to 3 a day and my levels went up from 45 to 72. So, switched to dostinex. .5mg once a week, now upped to 1mg once a week. He is sending me for another MRI, the last one I had was 3 years ago and no tumor, but I hope the increased dosage will also do the trick. We did and IUI in April even with a level of 40 because I was ovulating with nice big follies and my lining was thick so just needed the progesterone to maintain the RE thought it looked good. I am not on any other meds, I think the prolactin issue comes from may years of very high level stress so I have been trying meditation, yoga, acupuncture etc. With me the phrase "just relax and it will happen" is an understatement. Maria

Hi, I haven't been on this site for a while. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who answered my questions about high prolactin and such. I just got my BFP naturally on Friday. My prolactin level was still consistently slightly elevated (below 50) and could have been caused by stress or macroprolactin which do not affect fertility or require meds. RE thinks our mycoplasma bacteria was to blame, the cycle we completed our antibiotics is the cycle I got my BFP. I'm 4 weeks, 2 days. I am due April 13th. Praying it sticks!!! Good luck everyone!
