Rachel5- I can't believe they didn't tell you the results. I find that odd. You should call them and ask for them- I'm sure though that everything is fine. Even if you have a pit tumor, they are always benign and very small. Most likely you will be put on bromo to reduce it which will also bring down your prolactin level. What is your level last time you checked? I see that your doc wasn't overly concerned with the level- whatever it is, everything will be fine. Please keep us posted. Brooke

Rachel- If they were sending you to a neurologist I would be more concerned...but, they're not... You should go to an Endo. for your issues. It sounds just fine to me. Your endo will give you your results, just as mine did. You'll be put on drugs ( like I am) and you'll go from there. It will be fine! Like I said if it were something more serious they would send you to a neurologist or oncologist. Your situation is common amongst all of us! Hang in there! You're in the best hands possible! I LOVE my reproductive endo!

Question for any of you.... Did any of you develop ovarian cysts upon coming off of BC or in general? I"m kind of in a lot of pain... in addition to the fact that I've been on Bromo almost 2 months, my prolactin level has not dropped too much and I have yet to have a period. Any thoughts? It's like the drama keeps building....

holland- what kind of pain are you having? is it ovary pain? one sided? when does it occur? every day? or during ovulation and before menses arrive?

bciervo - June 22

Also- I should have included- give the bromo some time to work. It took me 3 months to see a difference in my cycles on bromo. I was skeptical too- hang in there with it. Your levels have started to drop- that's a good sign.

Bicervo, I have yet to even have a period on my own (w/out medicine) since I got off of BC in Sept. That is what prompted me to check everything out. So, ovulation to me is a new thing.... however, I have been having these pains for awhile with no signs of ovulation and no period. My prolactin went from 26 to 21.9 in 6 weeks- now I"m on Bromo twice a day and will get my levels rechecked in 3 weeks. I am pretty tender to the touch on both sides... I really think since being off of BC I'm developing cysts which probably only adds to the fact that I'm not ovulating. Do you think I'll even get a cycle with the bromo? Thanks so much!

Actually my doc at the fertility clinic is only a fertility specialist, not an RE. I don't even know if we have those in Ontario and if we did I'd have to wait months to see one. The obgyn was the one who ordered the MRI, it was the fertility specialist who wasn't overly concerned about it as she looks at structure mostly. So I called the obgyn's office and asked for the results, the secretary said they found a 5mm microadenoma in the right half of my pituitary gland and are referring me to an endocrinologist for treatment and that doctor will correspond with the fertility specialist on their course of action & vice versa. So basically the one doctor you see called an RE, I have two, one is a fertility specialist who looks at the structure of my reproductive anatomy and the endocrinolgist looks at the hormones. I'd rather do this then wait months to see an actual RE. My last prolactin level was 49, the first one was 28 so it is going up. I wonde how this is affecting my fertility as I ovulate (as per my charts a very obvious temp increase for about 15 days) and have regular periods. This month I noticed major spotting at 12dpo which was odd for me. I just had an SHG done which came out perfect. I have an endo biopsy on July 4th.
I am glad they found something though as everything except for the prolactin level and MRI have come out perfect.

holland- i'm not an expert but your prolactin level has dropped- and i'm sure it will continue with taking the meds. I don't know why you are having the pain on both sides. Does it only occur a couple days or do you have it constantly? I can feel my ovaries when I ovulate and then it goes away for a couple days and most months I get it back on my right side until my period starts. Its just a throbbing feeling- a dull ache. Is your achiness more like a stabbing pain? Make sure your doc knows about it- when I first started noticing mine I called and they got me in asap for an ultrasound which showed i was just about ready to ovulate. They can tell by a pelvic exam most times too if there is a cyst. It's possible you haven't gotten a period since Sept due to the high prolactin- but there could be other reasons to explore. I think you can still get pregnant with a cyst- many have- but sometimes if they are too big they will block your eggs from releasing. This is only from what I have read- again- tell your doctor about it- I'm sure they will check it out for you. If it is a cyst, they can take care of it for you. Good luck and keep us posted.

I also just wanted to add- try not to panic and think up things as you feel them. I did this for months. Every night I would get my books out and try to self diagnose and then i would report to my husband that I had cysts, thyroid problems or endometriosis. None of these things were ever found- but of course I thought I had everything because I wasn't getting pregnant. I know the books and even this internet can put ideas in heads- just try to stay level headed and always ask your doctor when something doesn't seem right- I know you might feel like a "bug" by asking them questions all the time but that's why they are there- I hope you get some answers soon. Take Care

Hi Bciervo, one more week.Waiting part is hard.how many IUI cycles have you tried or is it your first?what are your prolactin levels like now?Did your doctor tell you that high prolactin can prevent implantation?Holland, I had no side effects with clomid at all. No breast tenderness,no pain or bloating.Just felt some fluttery feeling on the first two days of the dose and that was it.
I did have those lower abdominal pain during ovulation ,some months worst than the other .But your doctor may have a better understanding of it.

Bciervo, sorry. You did mention that your prolactin is in the normal range.Thats a very good thing. I believe you have a good chance this month.my fingers crossed for you!

Bicervo and Jyot- Okay, so.... just went to my new OB/GYN. He told me that that if I hadn't started a period by August he would put me on clomid....said there was no sense in prolonging all of this. He said he hopes the increased dosage of bromo helps but that sometimes women just need a jumpstart. He seemed to play down what my RE was saying... my RE wants to avoid giving me any drugs. Anyhow...hopefully the bromo will induce a menstrual cycle, but if nothing by August.... I think we might be able to start trying. Jyot... I think everyone reacts to clomid differently... it also may mean that perhaps, you will need a higher dose. They start with 50 mg and then go to 100mg. But... you could have ovulated... are you sched. for a blood test to check your progesterone to see if you did ovulate? (that's what I had to do) If you did ovulate and you and your partner had intercourse.... I would say there is a very, very good chance you're Preggo!!!! We'll keep our fingers crossed.
Bicervo... thank you for the support and vote of confidence... you are right, I do go home and try to diagnose myself and I'm tired of reading about it all and worrying etc., etc.... I've got to relax... just relax... my doctors tell me it's going to happen, I know I'm in a better place than some women dealing with infertility issues. My cramps are still there, but my OB thinks everything should be okay... maybe, just maybe I'm ovulating... we'll see! Bicervo... are you doing okay? All this talk about everyone else, but how are you doing? Thanks again! Jyot... keep us posted, you should be able to take your blood test in a couple days or so!

jyot - June 24

Holland, thats great that things are looking better.Maybe you'll get a period this month with the larger doses ,especially since you have already been on a steady dose all these days. But why does RE not want to prescribe the clomid? I was on 100mg.I just had Ultrasound and blood test this morn. They said my follicles look good and all hormones looked ok.They didn't tell me how much.I am taking the ovidrel shot tonight (HCG) and IUI on sun morn. Thanks for all your positive thoughts. You guys are always in my thoughts.Apparently ,you are the only people who know most of my days happenings lately and who ,I guess actually can understand !!Thanks.
Bciervo, how are you passing this difficult waiting period?

Hi everyone, I am so glad to findout this site. I though I am the only one his high prolactin level. I am 26 years old, I as diagnosed with high prolactin level and piatuitary tumor 7 years ago. One day my period just stop and was yound did not care much. After couple monthes I went to see Dr. and find out that my prolactin level was about 200. Then Dr tell me to take Bromoeriptine, I took it for couple months and nothing happen then I stop medical treament and ignor it. Because I was feeling normal, other than don't have period. 3 years later still no period then I went to see Dr. again and find out that my prolactin level has increased to 1200. And MRI scan found that my pituitary tumor is about 11mm X11mm .Then the Dr. put me on Dostinex. It worked very well after 2 years of Dostinex my prolactin level went down to less than 200. But it is still not normal. For the past 2 years I had been on Dostinex and taking 2.5 mg twice a week my prolactin level still between 200-100. It keeps up and down between 200-100. It never reach less than 100. During these 5 years of treatment on Dostinex. I have period once a while, one year I have regular period for 6 months then stop. one year I have period for 2 months then stop again. My pituitary tumor has been the same for the last 2 years although has reduce compare to the beginning. My Dr told me that if this month my prolactin level did not go down then he sugguest me to have surgery. Is surgery the only solution? Anything else I should try? I am getting marry soon and want to have get pregnant right after marry. Does any one know if I can still be pregnant if my prolactin level is around 150? Can I get pregnant if I am still taking Dostinex? Thanks!

I'm doing okay- I have 2 days until preg test. I don't really have the symptoms I had the first time (which I had lost) so I'm just kind of hanging in there. This was my third try at IUI- I did the HCG shot and then the IUI 36 hrs later. I think the next step is clomid. My RE was also hesitating on clomid due to the fact that I ovulate on my own. I'm not sure if high prolactin affects implantation- I have read by others that it does- but I wasn't told that. My doc told me in the beginning that it affects ovulation- and like I've stated- I ovulate on day 14 now.
I don't know how I feel about taking clomid- just because I do ovulate on my own- however, I'm getting to the point to try anything. My doc also suggested we do laproscopy - I guess we have come to that if it didn't work this cycle. I've had the HSG and all other tests except the lap- I actually want to have it done now- I've got to know if there is something preventing us from getting pregnant again- It's so exhausting. I'll keep you posted after my test results come in Wed afternoon. If you don't hear from me right away it means I'm hiding out until I can talk about it. Good luck to all of you- I seriously think one of us has got to have good news soon!! Brooke

bciervo - June 26

Jyot- how did your IUI go? I have a good feeling about it for you- it's so frustrating when things are perfect and it still isn't happening.... when is your next blood test? 7 dpo? Are you on progesterone too? I started my prog the night after my insem- that's one thing I like taking- it makes me feel good that I'm supporting a possible pregnancy- good luck to you! I'll keep my fingers crossed.
