Bciervo: The magic prolactin number according to my endocrinologist is 200, but my OB said 300. I think for me since I have a pituitary tumor, that it will depend on symptoms, level, and tumor size all together. I guess my prolactin level will increase the largest amount during the third trimester. If I run into problems, both doctors said that I could go back on the Bromo during pregnancy if necessary. Both doctors concur that I should not have to go on meds, but there is always that possibility and I guess I am greatful to know we have a "plan B". This is our second and last child and I can't wait to get this pregnancy over with so I can stop worrying! It has been quite a nightmare, but I am more confident and positive now. I understand the extreme, intense feellings of wanting to have a child, but please make sure you as mommy is ok too! Make sure you take good care of yourself during all of this and everything will work out. Do you have an tumor or just unexplained levels?

I don't have a tumor- it is unexplained. I thought maybe there was a limit and was wondering what they do at that point. Thanks!!

This is my first time ever writing to any support group. But I am 28 years old. About 6 years ago I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor with high prolactin levels. After I got married in 2001, I came back from Jamica with my honeymoon souvenir. Her name is Lauren. She will be 4 soon. I am still having issues with my prolactin levels. A little over a year ago, I started on Dostinex. I did not take it consistently though. I was still able to get pregnant in Dec. 2004 but miscarried in Jan. 2005. I got pregnant again in May 2005 and miscarried in June 2005. 2005 was a horrible year for me, especially since everyone around me was getting pregnant. I work in a high school as a counselor and I know that people thought I was just super sensitive to people getting pregnant and that I was exaggerating when I said that everyone was getting pregnant. But literally, everywhere I turned some one was announcing their pregnancy. The kids even published an article entitled "Where have all the teachers gone? . . . They're on maternity leave." Great! Even Dora the Explorer's mom had TWINS! I thought I would not make it through the miscarriages. Well now, my husband and I are trying to conceive again -- although I am convinced that I definitely want a baby much more than my husband does. I just went back on Dostinex 2 weeks ago. My prolactin level is at 99. My last period was Jan. 14 and I am still waiting. It's more than a week late now. I am so frustrated because I feel like I have PMS but my period just won't come. Can anyone tell me how long it should take for my period to come after starting on Dostinex? Last time when I took it, my periods were regular. On top of all of this, my doctors have discovered that I have an elevated anticardiolipin, which means that my body creates blood clots that terminates my prengnacies, hence my miscarriages. I am just so frustrated and discouraged right now. I mean, will my body ever regulate? Will I be able to have another successful pregnancy?

Hi. I have a question for Tiffany jo. I am 20 weeks pregnant. I have a mircoadenoma. I conceived while on Dostinex. I have not had my prolactin checked before my pregnancy. I have also been getting a lot of headaches. Should I say someting to my OB? I have already had my share of stress during my pregnancy already. I needed to have an amnio because my triple screening came back high with a risk for Downs Syndrome. Thank God my results came back normal. I wonder if somehow the microadenoma could have had something to do with my false postive blood test.

Your prolactin level was probably normal before conception because you ended up pregnant. When did you stop the Dostinex? I stopped the Bromo after about a week and a half of pregnancy. One month later, my levels were back up in the 70's, my boobs were so soar that I couldn't even touch them, my sex drive took a nose dive, my headaches increased, and I had two episodes were it felt like it was a little bit difficult to focus my vision. This prompted me to go see my OB and endocrinologist. We checked my level again and it was in the low 80's a month later. My endo did a visual field test which I passed in the office, but I am making an appointment to see an opthamologist for a complete visual field test to test my peripheral vision, which he recommended I do every 12 weeks during pregnancy. I am also scheduled for a MRI to check on the size of the tumor and I will have my prolactin levels checked every month. My OB and endo said MRI's are completely safe to have during pregnancy. They said we will probably do another MRI during the third trimester. My doctors just want to make sure that the tumor doesn't grow enough to press on my optic nerve and cause vision loss or damage. I found a research study that stated women with microadenomas like we have only have a <1% risk for tumor complications during pregnancy and my endo did agree. However, since I was having some symptoms, we decided it is better to be safe than sorry!

Sorry Rebecca! The last question was for you from me!

Bciervo - February 27

I have a question for those of you who have achieved pregnancy on bromo. Last month when I started the bromo, I didn't have sore breasts at all- and that was a first- before the meds I always did about a week before AF. However, this cycle we did IUI last week and I have very very sore breasts- I can honestly say the sorest ever. I guess this waiting is just getting to me- and I'm looking for a sign of pregnancy. Has anyone out there that achieved pregnancy on bromo experienced really sore breasts? Thanks- and again, I'm just going nuts looking for something!! : )

A question to all... Does anybody have any theories as to what causes a pituitary adenoma? Have any of your physicians given any indication of new research as to what the cause is? Was anybody using the Ortho Evera birth control patch before finding out they had an adenoma?
