Tiffany Jo, I was ttc for the third time for a year, my gyno tried clomid. After four cycles of the clomid I was sent to a specialist. After numerous testing I found out my prolactin was elevated. It was only 41. After a few more blood tests the doctor put me on parlodel. I also had to start taking the pills slowly. After a month on parlodel I conceived. I was also very nervous about taking medication during pregnancy. The specialist had me take the pills for only the first six weeks. After she was able to see that my baby was developing I was taken off the pills. My levels were never checked again during my entire pregnancy. My daughter was born healthy. When she was 6 weeks old my doctor started testing my levels again. After 10 weeks with no breast feeding my levels were still high. I was put back on the parlodel. After being on the pills for a few weeks I found out I was pregnant. This time my gyno took me off the pills right away. Again I was never tested during my entire pregnancy. My doctor had explained to me that rising prolactin levels are normal during pregnancy. Six weeks after I gave birth to my fourth child my doctor started testing my levels again. This time my number was 102. She started me on parlodel and referred me to a specialist. I went to see the doctor last week, I amgoing for MRI on the 26th and started taking dostinex. I hope you will be able to conceive as easy as I was.

Hi I´m from argentina and my prolactin levels were at first, of 110 and , when tested for the second time 56. You´ll get a resonance done to find out if you have a pituritary tumor (don´t freak out!!! it´s always bening and usually small if you happen to have one...) Then you should get a third blood test for prolactin molecules to be cheched, cause, as far as I know, there´s like a "fake" prolactin and a "real" one, it´s got to do with the size of the prolactin molecules. You might have the fake pretty high and the real at normal levels. If it comes out you have the real one high they might put you on parlodel or cabergoline, on increasing doses until you get the desireable level which will allow you to ovulate and as a result, to get preggy. Hope it helps you!!! Good luck

Jennifer, That is great I need to hear that it works. I started on meds in Jan I think and no baby yet. But I tell every one that my baby is going to come. My levels are down and i have a cycle every month now which is great :) and I know when to expect my cycle. I go to my Obgyn on Friday to see what she says. Just wanted to let you know that Your story helped my faith!!

I just came across this site this evening and am so glad to hear from so many people going through what I am. I found out in May that I have a pituitary tumor. It was discovered after I went off my birth control and never got my period. After blood tests, and an MRI they found a tumor. It was less then 8 mm so its not necessary to operate. I currently take Dostinex, 1/2 mg twice a week and brought my prolactin levels down from 156 to 13 in 3 months. I have not had a period since going off of the pill in January. I had hoped that after 3 months on Dostinex that I would have something by now. I am experiencing the worst cramping and keep hoping its coming. Never thought in my earlier days I would ever look forward to a period. As for the side effects of Dostinex, I do get some lightheadedness but nothing major. Glad to have found this site. Good luck to everyone!

I'm new to this site. I am 50 years old and not looking to get pg. My MRI showed an ademona on my pituatary gland and test results have my prolactin level at 36. I am in peri-menapause but I still have fairly normal periods. Does anyone have any advise for me? I feel for all of you who are trying to get pregnant - after 25 years of trying I gave up - wonder if it was my prolactin levels all along.

Welcome to the site Deb. It has been a great source of support for me. I also have a pituitary adenoma and have been on dostinex for almost 2 months. Do you know the size of your tumor? If it gets too big (I thinover 8 cm?) it can rest on the optic nerve and affect your vision so even if you are no longer trying to get pregnant you should probably consider the meds to reduce the tumor size. I started on Parlodel but the side effects effect some people (like myself) pretty badly. The dostinex has had great results in lowering my prolactin from 109 to 7.5. You should speak with your ob or ER to see if they think your adenoma caused you to have difficulty concieving. It is very possible since that is what alot of us on here are currently trying to regulate.

my breasts began to leak on sunday after a visit to the doctor who ruled out pregnancy he suspected it may be high prolactin levels. im going for my blood test 2moro but am very worried i may have the tumour and problems conceiving etc when im older because i am only 15. What other problems do u suffer with high prolactin levels?

Hello All
I have found these response very comforting for I too have a high prolactin level. After years of irregular periods visits to several Gyns I was diagnosed with high prolactin in August 2004. I started on Bromocriptine - everything seemed to be normal, periods every month. But then early 2005 it went back to irregular and all the worry all over again. I changed Doctors again.... I have now started Dostinex - 0.5mg once a week, and I have 2 refills before I test again. Like everyone I am trying to get pregnant badly. I hope the Dostinex works for me and I hope everything works out for all of you trying too.

I just read some more responses. Has anybody gotton pregnant while on Dostinex during the first month? And has anybody at all, who is trying like me to get pregnant got their dream realised.

My husband and I have been ttc for 2.5 years. We finally went to a fertilty doctor and apparently I had a high prolactin level which he thought was most likely the problem. He prescribed me Dostinex which I started taking in June. Its now August 24 and I just recently found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant. Dostinex is not a fertility drug - it's main purpose is to lower your prolactin level. Goodluck everyone!

Alicia - August 24

Diana Congrats.
My Gyno did say it was not a fertility drug, but she also said that the chances of conceiving are increased after using the medication. I just hope this one works for me since the Bromocriptine worked for a while then my situation went right back as it was before.
