Clomid success story - it does work!

So many of you have mentioned provera and metoformin. What do each of those drugs do?

Even though my fert. doctor has making a break from the treatment this month, I started my OPK tests last night. I am basing my cycle on what it was like while on clomid, 28 to 29 days, just in case my cycle is now regulated. Today is day 12. I don't expect to be regulated, but don't want to miss any open windows either...

The other day, one of the students in my last period class asked me if I was pregnant after I redirected her to stop interrupting me. I said no and she replied, "You look it in your stomach." At first I was kind of hurt, it stung, etc. But then I thought about it: this brat was just upset I corrected her! I take the same size clothes as I always have and they are not tighter in the least! I normally am not offended at all at the stuff my teens say because, well they are teens, but that comment stung at first on many levels. I put on a tough face though. I should have responded, "No, are you?"

angel..i know days 2-6 sounds a little unusual, but if it means anything, i got pregnant on days 2-6 on clomid :)

metformin.....
The female reproductive system, particularly the ovaries, requires insulin to work properly. When there is an excess of insulin in the body, the ovaries may not function normally. Thus, there is a basic relationship between insulin and pregnancy. This relationship becomes especially important for women with PCOS.Many physicians and fertility experts attempt to treat PCOS with a drug called clopimhene or Clomid. Clomid helps to induce ovulation. In recent years, Metformin has been used, either with or without Clomid, to help produce ovulation in women with PCOS. Metformin assists the body with responding to and managing its insulin; in turn, this helps the ovaries function more regularly, and creates a more regular ovulation cycle. This assists greatly when trying to conceive.

provera....(active ingridient Medroxyprogesterone)
If your periods are irregular or have stopped completely and your doctor can find no obvious cause, it may be that something has upset your natural hormone levels. Medroxyprogesterone can help to restore your natural hormone levels, because it mimics the effects of your natural progesterone.
Normally the level of progesterone in your blood increases about a week before your period. If medroxyprogesterone is taken for 5 to 10 days each month at this time (ie day 16 to 21 of your cycle) it mimics the natural rise in your progesterone levels. This can help your other hormones to behave in a more normal way. To treat irregular periods this medicine is taken in this way for two menstrual cycles. To treat periods that have stopped it is taken for three menstrual cycles. In each case, a few days after you stop taking the tablets you should get your period. At the end of the treatment regular periods should return.

im no doctor, lol. this is all just copied in from internet. hope it helps :)

jac1019 – The provera is progesterone, its used to bring on your period if you don’t them naturally. Metformin as far as I know is a diabetic drug, for insulin, so its giving to people with pcos to reduce their symptoms and to help them lose weight, its very affective for fertility too, wanted my doctor to give it to me but he said I should wait 6 months and try clomid first. I’ve put on 14kg’s in 1 year and I think alot of it is pcos related, its very frustrating. I’d love to lose the weight before being pregnant but I’d rather be pregnant now than losing the weight first and then being pregnant ;-)

I hope you get a positive opk, do you ovulate on your own?

Your students are awful!!! I would be very hurt, I think I’m way too sensitive to teach teenagers ever!

mumstheword - thanks!!! i will now deffo be taking it on CD2 lol :-)))

Thank you both very much! I have been wondering what those drugs do. I could have researched it on my own, but every time I research something fertility related, it tends to be around my own issues.

I do ovulate on my own- we think.. My problem basically came into being after my July of '10 miscarriage. Prior to then I would get AF like clockwork, every 29 days; however, ever since then my body has been haywire. My reg ObGyn found it very strange that by Dec. of '10 I was still extremely irregular; my cycles were sometimes 45 days, 50 something, etc.

Originally I was tested for early menopause because it runs on my mother's side. My mom was the oldest of five sisters to reach menopause at 40; the others hit it between 32 and that age. Their mother, my grandmother, reached it at an early age of 38. Originally, since I was 31 in Oct., that was my fertility doctor's major concern, but I tests do not indicate the I am premenopausal. Had that been the case, there wouldn't be too much we could do. Naturally, I was extremely relieved.

At this point, we are still trying to figure it all out. My body responded wonderfully to clomid on the first two cycles, so.... I am hoping it just needed a kick start. Lastly, there has been some indication that my cervix provides a "hostile" environment for my husband's sperm, so more IUIs seem to be in my future. Luckily my insurance fully covers me for those.

Angel - I'm not taking the metformin to lose weight, but it's definitely an added bonus! I hope it continues that way!! Good luck on your new eating plan!

So still just very light slight spotting today, waiting for AF! Hoping it shows up later today! If it starts today I can start clomid on Friday!! Keeping my fingers crossed it shows up soon!

hopefullysoon - March 30

Or should I count today as the first day of AF? Yesterday I only had very very very light pink. But today I've so far had a redder spot, should I count this as day one? Or wait for a full flow?

hopefullysoon - March 30

Okay, so after my post I am going to consider today as day one. The reason being is because right after that post I went to the washrom and more spotting was there. However it's still just a little bit but its continuing and didn't stop with the one spot this morning so someone correct me if I'm wrong in counting today as day one. Lol I'm rambling now.

Yay to moving onto the next cycle! I'm really hopeful this month, not sure if that's a good or bad thing lol

Babymoon - March 30

Still nothing on opk today, and we are either 14 or 15. Hopefullysoon like you I'm usually unsure when to start counting! So I'm now thinking I may surge on the weekend while I'm away for my mother in laws birthday :( disappointing as there will be no action there!
Best hope is surge tomorrow which means I have Friday night sat morning and Sunday afternoon to hopefully get things right!

Babymoon - March 30

Angel did af show up? Or are you still waiting, you said you had cramps

Jac what a total little brat, no way could I work with kids!

Hopefullysoon the weight thing is a pleasant side effect but also not why I'm taking metformin, hoping to get to the stage where I o normally without clomid since you can only be on clomid for 6 months!

hopefullysoon - March 30

Babymoon - I've been told by many dr.'s that you can be on clomid for 12 months in a lifetime HOWEvER though, they usually like to only do 6 before moving onto other options because other options usually mean other types of fertility meds.

For me they're hoping that the metformin will help me from continuing to build up a resistance to the clomid since they have to keep increasing my clomid :( because my insulin is making me build a resistance to it :(

This month my dr increased my clomid to 150mg. If i continue to ovulate on the 150mg and don't build a resistance to it, he wants me to stay on it for 4 months, which means I will have been on clomid for 8 months on total. After that if I'm still not pregnant then onto IUI. If I don't consistently ovulate however on 150mg then we'll be going to IUI sooner.

So I'm really hoping this month works!

Good morning!

Babymoon – no af yet although I had no sleep last night ? I had really bad cramps, but IBS cramps, dunno what I ate that could’ve caused it, but I know ibs is worse closer to AF, and felt like I had AF cramps... very badly, was so disappointed but nothing yet. Do feel like it’s on its way soon though.

Hopefullysoon – really hope the metformin works with the clomid! 8 months is long, but if that’s what it takes its worth it!
Well have a nice day all, think of me as I’m dead tired!!!!

O-BABY - March 31

jac1019- Let me just tell you....you are in the right profession if you can stand your ground like that girl! It would have taken everything in me to not slap her little ass out of her chair!! lol What grade do you teach? Good for you, for being the Teacher/person you should be in your profession.

How are you feeling these days?

Babymoon- Hoping you get a positve opk soon.

hopefullysoon- I would count it as day one also. And I am really hoping that this is your months so you don't have to continue to take Clomid!!

Angel- If you feel as AF is around the corner, it probably is...lol That is how I felt also. It felt like it took FOREVER this time before AF showed.

As for me....AF is not near as heavy as it has been in the past, not sure what that is about??!! But, I am super excited to start this 3rd round of Clomid, so I can either be pregnant and done with the meds, or have my dosage upped! And as for the Metformin making you lose weight...that is not the reason they prescribe it to you...that is only a positive side effect that most women experience. Well some might see it as positive. But it is prescribed to pretty much level out your insulin. And I being one of those that has gained like a total of 12 pounds while taking Clomid, I am glad to be starting Metformin tomorrow and I hope that it makes me lose ALL of that dang 12 pounds!!! lol

SO......one of us better have some good news by the middle of next month!! lol

@ngel - March 31

Sorry all I only saw some of the posts now... missed the previous page. Sux with the time differences between us.

Hopefullysoon, the metformin for the weight loss is a big bonus, I’m doing ok on the “diet”, although it is a bit boring, must admit I had a biscuit last night and I’ve never tasted such a nice biscuit in my life, lol, amazing what happens when you don’t eat nice things every day. Really hope AF shows today for you ? Or did yesterday at least. I do think you can choose yesterday as day 1 though. Worst case scenario you’ll be taking it from day 2 like me my next time around :)

Well my stomach cramps have gone away but now my back is REALLY sore... like such a AF symptom isn’t it ? I read lower back pain in pregnancy only comes later. I pretty much do have all the AF symptoms except a headache now. I don’t mind I’m preparing myself for it, its the stress after the clomid finishes that gets to me... waiting for ovulation, and trying to time things, and I just don’t seem to feel ovualation happening.

mumstheword - March 31

angel...any idea what cycle day you ovulated? what date would you expect af? x

@ngel - March 31

Mumstheword – Its hard to say, I went for a u/s on the 18th (CD22) and had a 20mm follicle the doc said looks ready to burst, but temps only show rise at CD26, which would make ovulation CD25. Didn’t really have o symptoms. Then on the 26th (CD30) had my progesterone blood test which was level 55, quite high for 5dpo but apparently the clomid can make it that high. So I could be on 10dpo now. I’m just feeling so uncomfortable, my back is killing me today. I’m pretty sure af is on its way... its our 1 year anniversary tomorrow so its probably waiting for that lol!

O-Baby: I am an English teacher, certified to teach grades 7-12. I teach 7th and 8th, and have been doing so for nine years. As a result, I know not to take their nasty comments personally; they are just pimply faced city kids who take their anger out on everyone. That comment made me breathe though... I am doing okay, staying optimistic as I wait for my big O-day (ovulation, that is ;). As for the aneurysm, I still need to get some more tests done, but they are pretty sure it's behind my left eye...

Your period, O-Baby, was it extremely heavy in the past, or is it just on the lighter side this time?

So, the Metoformin- do you inject it? Also, over how long of a period of time on clomid did those of who gained weight accumulate those pounds?

Another question for everyone- do your doctors have you do post-coital tests? I did one my first two rounds of clomid, and I know I will do one for the next few rounds I take.

I am ready for this weekend to be here! It has been a loooonnnnng week.
