Metformin

I have PCO and had been trying to conceive for 3 years. My doctor put me on both Metformin and Clomid. But I did a bit of reading and found out the people with PCO increase their odds of conceiving if they excercise, lose weight and eat a low carbohydrate diet....all of these are supposed to regularize your hormones. Well, after being on Metformin, and CLomid and doing about 5 IUIs, I decided to take a two month break before trying IVF. And guess what? During the two month break (I was still on Metformin only) ...I got pregnant! It must have been the 45 minutes of daily walking combined with my low carb diet and the meds that did it! I wish you all the best in your efforts to get pregnant!

Hi, I was diagnosed w/PCOS in Sept. after 11 yrs ttc, and have been taking metformin for 6 Months. I am currently on 1500 mg. a day. I had some side effects at first but Doc told me to ALWAYS take with meals. Since then I have had no noticible side effects except a little gas. I am still hopeful and wish luck to all. Hope this helps.

I'm diagnosed w/pcos - long cycles w/late ovulation and defective luteal phase (less than 10 days). I started 1500mg/day metformin in late Nov 05. Positive pregnancy test end of January. I am now in week 8. I also attribute it to Clearblue Easy fertility monitor - i knew exactly when to do the babydance. I think the metormin let it happen and the fertility monitor let me take advantage of it. Side effects were mild and worth it, and disappeared after a couple weeks (bit of nausea & diarrhea). I'm still in the high-risk weeks, so we'll see if it "sticks" - i've had so much trouble getting here that i'm unwilling to count my chickens....

I just wanted to say you guys give me a lot of hope. I have never been able to keep a pregnancy. I did a lot of testing and one thing my doc found was that i had high insulin so I have been taking metformin for about 2 weeks now with no side effects. I also have endo and have had 2 surgeries for that. I am really hoping this works. Though i hate the waiting and hoping and disappointment maybe one day it will pay off. I am also supposed to have an endometrial biopsy in April, my immunoligist thinks i have elevated NK cells which are normally in the uterus at certain levels to help protect the baby but sometimes misinterpert the baby and attack which is what he says he thinks is my case and I have always thought for the last 10 years that that my body was attacking my babies and killing them but i really hope that is not what it is and the metformin works, i guess i have another month or so of trying with just the metformin then my doc wants to put me on Humira, which I dont know about but would like to find someone who has already taken it ? Well, good luck to all of you and i hope for each of you that you get that BFP and have a happy healthy pregnacy :)

I am on 1000mg of met and 150mg of clomid and I am also on provera. This is the first time that I have been on all three. I would like to know WHEN exactly are you suppose to take the provera. Your "natural "period isnt suppose to start until 28 days or so after the last one and provera usually works within a couple of days after using it. So my question is should I be using provera about the time I finish clomid or a couple of days before my period is do?

your doctor should be telling you when to take all of these medications

Some women they stop taking metformin after 3 months and that lessons the miscarriage rate. Some women they continue through entire pregnancy. From everything I have read it is safe to the baby. Congradulations too. Stories like yours give us all hope :)

I was dignosed with pcos when I was 18. I had gyn give me avandia nad clomid and 6 month later I was pregnant with my first child. Now it almost 3 years later I am trying again. Now gyn gave me metformin and clomid. I notice this month here I had 2 day light period and then spotting for 2 days and then no more of anything. I try a pregancy test it said negative. I was wondering could my fsh be too low to detect the homones or is implanting bleeding. Can anyone tell me what they think?
