hello,
I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago, and started taking Metformin in June. I am taking 850 mg twice a day, and recently discovered I am pregnant. (thank God!!) My OB said I should discontinue the Met, but after reading all of the miscarraige stories, I am afraid. I do have one child who is 4 years old who was conceived on a miracle, the Dr.s cant quite figure her out. I believe I have had one miscarraige. Has anyone had experiences like me, with secondary infertility? Should I take the Met against my OB's advice?

To clarify, I am about 7 weeks, and started taking Met in June of '05.

Hi Cassie,
Congrats on being pregnant! I cant wait until I'm in your shoes :) I was wondering if you had to take any fertility drugs after taking Met? My doc wants me to start clomid in Feb...so you concieved 5 months after the met by itsself?

Aleaha,
I only took Metformin, and I didnt take it to become pregnant, only to regulate my hormones and my period. My reproductive endocrynologist told me there was a chance I would get pregnant, but considering my luck the past 4 years, I didnt believe it. So no, I took no fertility drugs. Please God, you should hear good news soon.

Hi Everyone: I've been with my husband for going on 5 year and we have not concieved yet. I was just diagnosed with PCOS Dec 5th by my PCP and began taking Met on Dec 7th. Hopefully I can go through this with you all because I can't really talk with other people except my hubby. I am 23 and want a baby soo... bad. I am scheduled for a transvaginal ultrasound in a week by my fertility spec. In Jan. I go back to see the results of all the bloodwork and ultrasound he took. I wish things would just speed up but I can't go to the Doc. off. often because I work a 9-5. Many of the these stories have been inspirational and the rest have been comforting just knowing that I'm not alone in my baby journey. For those who have had IUI an IVF, if you don't mind answering, what were the cost?

Hi Metgirl. I have been doing IUI, I'm about to start my 3rd cycle. I have PCOS & have been taking Metformin (1500 mgs) Clomid & the trigger shot too. The female cost of the IUI at my RE's practice is $150, then there are costs for the sperm washing too, but my DH's insurance has been covering that. I have coverage for my u/s so that helps too. The drugs cost around $40 to $60 for the Clomid, & $65 for the Ovidrel trigger shot. All things considering, IUI is a lot cheaper than IVF. Good luck, & baby dust!

hi everyone, this site has given me so much inspiration. I feel like I cannot talk to anyone about my pcos problems. Me and my husband have been ttc for 2.5 years with no luck. Was diagnosed with pcos 1.5 years ago. I have started metformin but have had no luck yet. I have only been on it for four weeks taking 500mg three times a day. I suffer from excessive hair growth on my face and body and was wondering if anyone has the same problem? If so what is the best medication to reduce it or get rid of it. I also suffer from irregular periods and am hoping metformin will help me have a cycle every month. thanks

Hi Cassie, Im in the exaact same boat, im soooooo confused, I was diagnosed with pcos in the summer and started Metformin in October, just found out im Pregnant approx 8 weeks, im over the moon but don't no what do as I rang my Gyny to tell her my news and she told me to stop taking my Metformin, I was shocked cos I read the stories on this site previous and really did'nt expect her to tell me that, I did question her though and she told me that there was no evidence that Metfromin harmed the baby but also no evidense that it helped with the pregnancy. I went private to see this gyny, she has an excellent reputation and is suppose to be one of the best in her field so I feel I should take her advice, but its such a gamble. One thing I have done off my own back is come off them slowly, im slowly reducing my dose, I was on 2000mg, I took 1000mg for a few days and now am taking 500mg, but my gyny wanted me just to come off all metformin straigtht away, but I decided to do it this way., but I don't no what to do, im dreading stopping the 500mg and putting it off, im seeing my GP on Tuesday but there is no point asking him cos he's rubbish and I expect he'll just agree with my gyny, What are you going to do?

Hi Kate,
Well, I listened to my Doctor's advice, and got off. I dont know what to expect and what to do, but am trying to be positive. I dont know why I am so scared, I wish I could snap out of it.
I also started this pregnancy a bit overweight, and it was NOT planned so while I am very very happy, I have some odd thoughts that are going along with it.
Good luck with yours, and all the best.

I am confused. What is a normal or average BBT? My BBT range 97.75 - 98.04 for the past 15 days. I take my temperature around 7am every morning. Is that above/below/or average?

I have been on Metformin 500mg. Bid for the past 3 months and I have to say it has done wonders for me. No more sore breast, mood swings, hot flashes, I feel really great for the first time in a long time. No pregnancy yet though. I have been having regular menses though. I hope this helps you some.
