Also getting IUI soon. They way I figure, it hurts me more to battle every month to fall pregnant and nothing happens, than a needle or whatever up there for a few minutes. However painful, I will bear with it! Lots of luck, I hope it is not too bad and that it brings us the baby we want!

I have had a couple. The first one was extremely painful, I could hardly walk afterward. I had cramps and bleeding. The second one was uncomfortable but not painful. Pls ask your doctor to be extra careful. The procedure is fairly simple. They just use one of those devices that you would normally use for a pap smear (that is the uncomfortable bit and slightly painful) then they put up a tube and if they do it properly, you shouldn't be able to feel the tube. Otherwise you WILL end up with pain if the tube scratches against you. It is about 15 minutes and then you rest for about 15 minutes and then it is all over.

Thanks for sharing your experience Cleo! What is the success rate of IUI, is it higher than normal, and if so how much higher, do you know? Jodie, let us know how it went?

i had a couple if IUI's. I felt a slight pinch the very first time. The three inseminations after that, I felt nothing.

I had IUI recently and I did not feel anything. Less comfortable than a pap smear. The worst part is waiting to find out..........

Louise - January 25

I've had two IUI's. I didn't experience much pain, it was like a sharp cramp. Just remember to stay relaxed and breathe. Also try and stay lying down for at least 10 min following. Best of luck!

WOW!! - February 1

This must be the year for this. I had my first IUI yesterday and I had a little bit of a pain on my right side before and today it's still there... But, that's normal for me. The IUI itself didn't hurt. Pressure was all I really felt. I've been reading all kinds of sites today and some say that pain is a good sign and others say you shouldn't have pain.. I'm going to have to go with 'everyone is different'. LOL!!
I just hope this one worked and I don't have to go back.. next time the Nurse practitioner will do it.. she was out this time and the Dr. did it, because she had a death in the family. He knew what he was doing... I don't know if she will be as good... So begins the longest two weeks of my life...

I am doing the same and trust me, I have researched this to the point of insanity..mainly for the success rate..but I can promise you...all I have been told is that it is like a pap smear. You shouldn't worry...

I have had four done and experienced no pain whatsoever. It's quick and easy. Just relax and think fertile thoughts!

Jodi - February 8

I had an IUI done about 3 weeks ago. It doesn't hurt at all. It's not the most comfortable feeling, but it's painless. I'm sure I'm going to have to get another one in a month. Did anyone get pregnant on their second try? Thanks so much.

Lindsey - February 16

I had an IUI on Feb 7, 2005. There was minimal pain or discomfort afterwards. The waiting part is the most painful. Good Luck!!
