Shorter cycle after shorter period?

A question for ladies who have been paying attention way longer than I have (my 2nd cycle charting and ttc): My last period was only 2 1/2 days instead of 5 days, which is my norm. I've read that eggs start to mature after the period is over, then one egg "takes over', matures, and is ovulated. My question is, if my period ends sooner than normal, is that process likely to start and end sooner than usual? I'd normally plan to start using an opk starting on cycle day 11 but I'm wondering if I might need to start sooner this month? Has anyone had experience with a shorter period than normal? (I'm not taking any fertility medications.) Was your next cycle a normal length or shorter than usual? Thanks!
