Hi Beth! I survided my first IUI. It was a bit painful for me. The doc said my cervix was really small, and he had a hard time getting the tube in. This morning I am ovulating. Its not quite as bad as it was last month, but it is a bit painful. The doc wanted to do two IUI's (a second one today), but did not tell us until yesterday. Did you have two IUIs at once?? Thanks for all your suggestions and input in this. It has been most helpful to talk to someone that has been through it! Glad that you are finally feeling some symptoms. You will be really lucky if you don't get very many. When my sis was pg, she said she had puking down to a science! Well, I need to get some work done in between doubling over in pain, so I'd best get on it. -kelly

KellyN my cervix was so small my doctor couldn't insert the insemination tube! Fortunatly we found this out before any IUI's but the bad part I had to go through cervical dilation. OUCH!!! They wanted to put me out for it but I insisted on being awake (why I have no idea) but now the insemination catheter isn't painful for me....
So are you going to do the second IUI? My doctor didn't recommend doing it he said go home and bd the day of insemination and for the next 3 days to cover any chance of a late ovulation. Which we did and I'm glad because I don't think I ovulated until Friday and my insemination was on Tuesday. I was trying to avoid doing too many IUI's per cycle because my insurance only covered 12 IUI's. Good luck and try to relax. Eat pineapple I don't know if it really works but I got pregnant and so did my friend who had IVF for the 2nd time and only thing different was the pineapple she ate. It could be all in our heads but sometimes the power of suggestion is greater than we think!

Hey Beth! I ate my serving of pineapple today!! ;o) No, we didn't do the IUI. Dh had to go to work out of town today. He is home tonight though, so we bd tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday. Hopefully that will be enough. I'm feeling much better this evening, so I think I've stopped ovulating. Just mostly feel bloated now. Started taking my prometrium tonight, so will be very sleepy soon. Off tomorrow to take a group of friends from work on an outdoor adventure tomorrow. Should be fun! Talk to you on Sunday! -kelly

Kellie great to hear from you! It's hard to believe that things can go from enjoyment to being so stressful sometimes but it's good to hear you're more relaxed this month. Things here are going well still (fingers still crossed) my first OB appointment is Wednesday DH and I are going for a consult and getting all our prenatal classes set up then on the 7th we have the first u/s. I'm so excited for that!
Good luck this weekend and just enjoy everything! Keep us posted when you have time.

KellyN - August 29

Hi Beth and Kellie!! Great to hear how things are going Kellie! I'm just back from my outdoor adventure, and what a great way to take my mind off of everything. Very relaxing. Glad to hear you and dh are finding ways to relax, Kellie. And who knows, your efforts may just pay off. I've had lots of people tell me that it will happen when I kind of give up and just relax. I just have such a hard time relaxing, though! Oh well. Beth, I can't wait to hear about your first ultrasound, and what you will see. What do they teach you in the prenatal classes? Is it like birthing and breating practice and such? Let us know how your appt on wed. goes too!! -kelly

KellyN - August 30

Hi Beth and Kellie!! Hope you guys are doing well. Beth let me know how your appointment goes tomorrow. Kellie have you felt anything after o?? I was feeling really bloated and kind of in pain. Today, however, most of that has gone. I still feel kind of like pms, though. Maybe its the progesterone supplement I'm taking. Talk to you guys tomorrow!! -kelly

Kellyb - August 30

Hi ladies. Beth- congratulations! That's great. I've been reading your posts and you gals are a great support system. I myself have been on clomid for 3 cycles now (50 mg) and just had a hsg test done on the 22nd. The clomid is working according to blood test (level at 50, norm 15). I'm just waiting to see what happens this month. My doctor has talked about IUI. My insurance will not cover it, did you have to come "out of pocket" for the procedure? Well, good luck to both of you Kelly's and to Beth for a wonderful pregnancy!

Beth - August 31

Kellyb welcome! So it sounds like clomid definatly makes you ovulate! I did clomid for 2 cycles it just didn't agree with me (terrible side effects). I did do IUI with one of my Clomid cycles and it wasn't effective. I was lucky to get pregnant with the first cycle of Femara and IUI. I know doctors like to do IUI with Clomid because it can decrease your uterine liking so much that conceiving can be difficult and it also thickens cervical mucus so much that it can make it hard for sperm to swim. These in addition to my side effects from Clomid were reasons why I went to Femara. And like I said it worked 1st try. I would think about looking into it if Clomid isn't successful before moving on to injectables. As for IUI my insurance covers 12 cycles each time you're trying to have a baby. I'm finding out that my insurance is one of the better ones for fertility treatment. I had no idea of that when I signed up for it. My Femara was even covered at 100%. So how was your HSG? I don't know if you heard but they seem to increase your chance of conceiving this cycle....I know it worked for me!
Well I'll keep you posted my first OB appointment is tomorrow and then my u/s is on the 7th. I had my first bout of morning sickness yesterday UGGHH I thought I was going to pass out I was so dizzy and sick! But that's passed today. Baby dust to all of you and you'll be in my prayers

Kellyb - August 31

Hi Beth. If I don't have a positive outcome this month I will definitely ask my doctor abouth the Femara. I feel more positive this month than any other. My HSG went well, my tubes were clear, it did hurt quite a bit but for only about 2-3 minutes. Afterwards I was fine. My doc said he's going to leave me alone this month (no more tests) and I am to call him when I get my cycle or hopefully I get a +! I'm sorry you have morning sickness but that's supposed to be a great sign for a healthy pregnancy. I can't wait to have morning sickness (haha!) I will keep you posted. Thanks for the advise. Make sure you rest up!!!

KellyN - August 31

Hi Beth, Kellie, and welcome Kellyb! So funny to see a bunch of kelly(ie)'s on this thread. Kellyb, I unfortunately did have to come out of pocket for my IUI, but it was only about $200, so it didn't break the bank like IVF would. Beth, what brand of insurance do you have? Mine covers lab tests, but did not cover my HSG, sperm analysis, or IUI. Well today I am only slightly bloated. Mostly I'm just kind of sleepy from the prometrium. As my symptoms go away I'm clinging to your story about how you didn't have any symptoms and got pg. So sorry about your morning sickness, Beth, but at least you can now tell that you are pg! My sister said she had puking down to a science by the end of her first trimester. Baby dust girls!!! -kelly

Kellyb - August 31

Hi Kelly N (& other gals)- I have PPOM insurance. They cover all diagnostics but do not cover procedures to get pregnant. My HSG was covered because it was diagnostic. They don't cover my Clomid either. I guess it's nice they cover so much. I'm glad to hear the IUI doesn't cost too much. I thought it was $500-$800. I don't have any symptoms either. I am on day 17 of my cycle, way early huh? Just playing the waiting game. BD!!!

Beth - August 31

Hi everyone! Well I had my first consult today at the OB's it was with my best friends mom so that always makes it more fun! It was just filled with info on what to do, what not to do, what to expect, who to call and everything else. I still have not been discharged from the reproductive endocrinologist or the hematologist yet so no physical exam today woohoo I hate them! I did have to have a TON of blood work to check for cystic fibrosis genes, HIV, Hep C, CBC, iron and a slew of others. In all they took 10 vials! Not to mention I had to have my clotting factors checked yesterday so I feel like a pin cushion. Nausea is gone today but I was saying to DH that I don't mind it even when I feel sick it's what I wanted so I'll take it.
I feel so lucky to have such good insurance I haven't had to pay out of pocket for anything except 15.00 copays when I go for a visit. I have Blue Choice insurance. In Rochester NY we have great insurance it's voted year in and year out either #1 or #2 in the country for customer satisfaction. And it's relatively inexpensive when I hear about prices other places in the country. I guess I'm really fortunate. So far it's just the copays that are expensive when you have to see as many doctors as I've had to see. Now it's nice no more copays until after delivery. In NY all prenatal care is covered as 1 fee including hospitalization and delivery. In all I think it's 50.00 for all the visits, u/s's and birth.
Thanks for all the well wishes each of you is in my prayers for a BFP this month. I hope none of your families were hit by the hurricane. We're getting the rains and wind from it today we've already gotten 4 inches of rain and I lost a good size tree in my yard. I can't imagine what it must be like down south.
Keep us all posted and I'm praying for you all

KellyN - September 1

Well I sat down to pay bills last night. I get to be the money person, since dh is out of town all the time - blah! But I realized that my insurance actually did pay for a bit of my HSG, so that is good. They paid about half. I know they don't cover the IUI's and sperm analysis though, because my doc's offfice makes me pay for those up front. Kellyb, sounds like your insurance is like mine - cover the lab work, but not the procedures. Beth that is so awesome about your doc visit to tell you all the ins and outs of pregnancy. How cool is that to, for once, have a fun doctors visit!!! To actually go to the doctor because of good news!!! How exciting!! Keep us informed, because I like to hear how all this stuff goes. Your Blue Choice insurance sounds awesome. I work for a government agency, and we have several insurance companies offered to us. Had I known I would have PCOS and need the doc to get pg, I would have looked at that more closely when choosing a company. Oh well. If I am still at it next year (we can only change our insurance once a year), I will look into it a bit better. Today I'm feelin kind of a dull pain in my central right side. Kind of more of a 'pulling' sensation than a pain. Wonder what that is?? Any more morning sickness Beth? How are you feeling today Kellyb?

Kellyb - September 1

Hi KellyN- I'm a little tired today. I hate the symptoms I get when on Clomid. Very close to feelings when pregnant. I'm done getting my hopes up though. I can't put my DH through it. I try to stay on a straight emotional line although it is hard. I really hope you get a + too. I love hearing about others getting pregnant, it kinda keeps me going, ya know. Well, I hope the "pulling" is a good sign. Hey, I have a question. I'm a little confused on when I supposedly ovulate. If I started on the 15th of August and go for and my cycle is 28 days, is it day 10-14 or could it be different? Talk to you later.Kellyb

KellyN - September 2

Hi Kellyb! I think they say that you should o anwhere between 5-10 days after your last clomid. My doc gives me a hcg shot to make sure I will ovulate within 36 hours, so we know for sure the IUI happened at the right time. I'm with you about getting up hopes each month with every little twinge of a symptom. Besides, now that I'm taking all these meds, who knows if its me or the meds that are causing those symptoms. Today, I have felt some minor twinges in my lower ab and right side, but that is all. Last week at this time I was very bloated and lots of cramping, I guess from the IUI and hcg shot. I think as the hcg shot wears off, so do my symptoms. Well, try to stay positive, girl. I will be right here for you! How are you doing today Beth?? Kellie?? -kelly
