Hey all.... I wanted to post this because I thought it might be helpful to some of you who are going to get this done. I read about the HSG weeks before my appt, and all I read from everyone was how horrible it was, and how it was very painful. So needless to say I was going to chicken out and change my mind. I cried the whole time there, in the car, waiting room, during the HSG ...I was totally afraid. If it wasn't for my husband sitting in the waiting room, I might have left. Anyways.. I took 800mg of Motrin about an hour and 15min before my appt. By the time they started it was in my system for 1 hour 45 mins. The procedure starts out just like a regular pap smear. They clean you and use all the tools to open you up and take the test. So that was uncomforable, kind of like the pap test, but I think they open you a little wider for this test. So they they use this balloon thing on me on the end of the tube they inserted. I didn't feel a thing. So when they said they were putting in the cathader... I got really afraid. It felt a little funny, but no pain. Now as for the dye.... he did it really slowly, so make sure your doctor does that too, I heard that when you do it fast it hurts more. Honestly I didn't feel a thing. He had me tilt on both sides to move the dye around. That was a little painful.. because I had the instruments in me... but it wasn't that bad. It was over in 5 mins. My tubes were open... maybe that is why I felt no pain. After they were done, about 5-10 mins I felt mild cramps, like my period. That only lasted about an hour at the most, and it was nothing that I would ordinarly take meds for. So that is my story. I don't know why it hurts really bad for some and not for others. But I wanted to post my story to let you know that I am one of them that I didn't hurt for. I was so afraid and I know that if you are getting it done you are too. But it was over quickly, and I am glad it was done. The 177 dollar cost was the worst part of it. I had a really gentle doctor and a nurse that was with me the entire time holding my hand and talking to me the whole time, so that all helped. The dye solution was also water based, and I heard that is less painful then the oil based one. So any more questions and I will be glad to help.
