Pregnancy after HSG

Anna~ I took a "xanax" (an anti-anxiety pill) about an hour and a half before my test today (although, I didn't sleep at all through it and remember everything even the pain, ha ha) I asked my dr before the test when I could start TTC again and she told me "right away". I was never told to "wait" at all before having sex after the HSG. Since I ovulate within the next two days or so, I'm going for it. Maybe there was a reason your dr told you that. But from what I read some drs tell you to wait (due to possible infection) and others say you don't have to wait. I think it just depends on the dr and their school of thought or on the individual patient. I would check with him or her again and see, especially if you don't want to lose out on this month's ovulation. From what I read (especially on this web site) most women go for it and don't wait since many have said they got pregnant a week after the HSG. I'm obviously not a dr but since mine didn't say "not to have sex" I'm going to be trying tomorrow. Good luck to you. Let me know what you find out.

I just had my first HSG today. I had some cramping but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's day 15 of my cycle and I want to ttc right away. Does anyone know why some doctors want you to wait - what kind of "infection" can you get?

Okay here ismy story again:
13months TTC. HSG 6/13 on CD7. My cervix was really tight. It felt like I was getting my ears pearced for about 2 seconds as the MD pushed the catheter through my cervix. They used the balloon to keep it open, OUCH! My tubes were free and clear. I had light period like bleeding for 3 days after. My DH & I BD 6/17,6/27,7/1,7/3,7/6.... I had my BFP on 7/19!!

I am confident the HSG opened my cervix up.... I had a LEEP for cervical dysplasiain 1995 & I bet I had scar tissue.

Baby Dust to all!

Hi all. Actually I am very confused now. I have been trying ttc and have been through IUI and HSG which indicated blockage to 2 tubes. I was on duphaston whole of last week and now my period just started. So how is it possible that my period still does come even with help of duphaston when my 2 fallopian tubes are blocked as shown in my HSG test results. Anyone knows what's happening? I am still considering laparascopy as I am looking for other alternatives. But I am anxious too as time passes by very fast. I don't want to wait another year and go through everything all over again. I read that some of you here went for some massage therapy. What kind of massage therapy is that? I am currently having one massage therapist who comes to my house once a month and she says that my uterus is in good shape?? Anyway, I am from Singapore.

Nikki, my Dr. told me that my cervix was really tight too, and that it could interfere with conception. Had my HSG & Laparoscopy june 21st- nothing yet. I was told that the HSG test will open up my tubes and that the Dr. going through my cervix will loosen that for about the same amount of time. Hope Doc is right!! Good Luck :)

Hello Everybody I went to the Dr. yesterday to see if I could get some meds to ovulate since I only have one good tube and it could increase my chances of getting preg. we discussed all of our options and the Dr did some blood work to check my hormones. But when he did a sonogram to check my uterus and to see if I was ovulating correctly he noticed something in my uterus. He said i might already be pregnant. I was so suprised and excited. although nothing is confirmed and he said if i was preg i would ony be like 2 weeks he still wants to se if my period comes down. I dont want to get too excited but I cant help it. I had my HSG done on June 23 and in July my period came down for 8 days. the doc said it was probably what I needed to have my system cleaned out. Well I just wanted to share my experience and let all of you out there to not give up hope. I will keep you guys informed.

Also the Dr discussed IVF could also be a last resort. But im not sure thats the way I want to go yet. But if anybody is interested, the Dr gave me a price range that he charges around $6,000.00 for IVF. I know this is expensive but I've seen it priced higher so if any body would like information on this Dr. you can email me at: [email protected] and I would be more than happy to give you the docs information. Also I am in Texas and so is the doc.

Hi there.. Actually I just had my HSG this afternoon at was doing some research and found this site. I have to admit that it was exactly how my doctor said it was going to be. I have been taking an antibiotic since yesterday (need to for 3 days for possible infection) and an hour before the procedure I took 800 mg of ibuprofen. Worked like a charm. Aside from the embarrasment of the actual test, I only had minor cramping when the dye was injected. All looked great and the dye flowed from the tubes. The Dr. did say though to wait at least 48 hours to have sex but I still think that will give me time before I ovulate. Anyway, for anyone that has to have it done, just relax and medicate!

I often wonder why some doctors say one thing and another doctor can tell you something totally different. I guess that's just the nature of the medical world. Some say you don't have to wait (after an HSG) at all to have sex, others say 48 hours, and some have said to wait as much as a whole week. I only waited 24 hours and I have to say it was only slightly uncomfortable that night, and the following night was about the same. By the four night it wasn't uncomfortable at all. I ovulated on the second day after my HSG (which I had on July 29th) so I didn't want to miss out this month. I have read on this site that some of you have been given antibiotics before or after the test to reduce possible infection. I wasn't given any at all. I wonder why? Anyone know why some doctors don't give it to you? Hope all is going well for everyone out there. Good luck to all.

The Dr is in Fort Worth. I work with ither girls that have gone to this Dr and have gotten Preg either thru IUI or IVF. I work at the hospital so I know the doc and have heard many good things about this Doc. My friend wanted twins so she made an appt to see him and she ended up w/twins.

I am also in the DFW area. My doctor does not do IVF, but he does do IUI. If we're not pregnant this cycle, we will begin IUI--but if that isn't working I will need to find a good IVF doctor in the area. So I will certainly e-mail you if we opt for IVF--thanks for the information--Baby dust you ya!

Nikki, I didn't take an antibiotic before my HSG either. I think some doctors just prescribe it as a precaution. My Dr. told me to wait 24 hours before having intercourse - I waited about 12 hours. I had my HSG on day 15 of my cycle so I don't think this month will work out. But anything's possible I guess.

I just had my HSG done this morning and the pain felt like cramps, which I didnt feel until it was about over. However, my tubes are block the tech said it look like fibroids but dont want to say for sure until the doctor look at the test and review it. So I guess i'll have to wait it out until Monday. Which is killing me by the way. My Question is do anybody know anything about this? I dont know what kind of fibroids yet, but will I still be able to have kids?

HSG - August 7

We have been trying for over 3 years. I had a HSG done (yes, it was uncomfortable) and got pregnant on the 2nd month. Only 5 weeks now, still in shock and so excited. Took my mind off of TTC when we decided to look for a new house and that's when it happened. It's hard, but find something to take your mind off it!

I had an HSG on April 21st of this year and I just got my BIG FAT POSITIVE YESTERDAY I had been TTC for 3+ years. I have 3 other children. I had taken the depo shot 2 times and in 2001 and since had not been able to get pregnant. Am going to the Dr. to confirm but I do indeed feel something is different.
