Different doctors have different views about Metformin during pregnancy. Some have women take it for first trimester only, some have women take it for the whole pregnancy, my RE had me stop taking it as soon as the heartbeat was seen on ultrasound. I would check with your doctor. Congratulations! Smiles, T

B I was on Metformin for about a year for PCOS, I think its a wonder drug... I found it impossible to loose weight before Metformin even with a super healthy lifestyle and lots of exercise... The only side effect I found is that you have to slowly introduce it otherwise it makes you nauseaous (and then u get excited that your pregnant)... your dr will probably start you on a low dose then bring it up over time... I found having it in the middle of my meals helped to stop the nausea, but it went away after a few months... I did fall pregnant thanks to Metformin and stayed on a low dose for first 12 weeks and safely made it into second trimester... am now 15 weeks... best of luck!

I actually just delivered a "Metformin Baby" who is 11 weeks old! I have PCOS and have for my entire adult life, my hubby and I have been married 18 years, I went on Met because I wanted to conceive and thought it might help, and Im getting closer to 40 so I thought I would give it one more shot. I started Met in March and found out I was preg in Nov. I did have some tuff side effects at first - nausea and sick feeling, but I started taking it at night and it subsided. I did have diarrhea but that to got better- I reccomend it, it was work having my daughter after 18 years of marriage and Im back on it now to try again. I also went on a diet and lost 57 pounds while on it. I loved it!!!

I have PCO and am Insulin Resistant and started taking Met last March. I was 38 and wanted to ttc once more before I hit 40. I managed with diet and exercise to loose almost 60 pounds and in September I started having cramps which really scared me. I took Fertility drugs in the 90's and know that they can increase one's risk of ovarian CA. To make a really long story short, I continued to cramp once a month and since I hadn't ever My OB decided to check it out. She scheduled an ultrasound and I finally got to go in November. After the ultrasound, I sat in disbelief after My doc told me I was 5 weeks pregnant. The cramps were ovulation. I have never ovulated before so I didn't know what I was feeling. I took the Met my entire pregnancy, My Kinsley is 3 months old and the joy of our lives!!!

hello,

I recently went on MET taking 500mgx4 so 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. My blood sugars were high is the reason why i was prescribed. well i was doing little research on this and was kinda surprised that this would help in concieving. We have been trying for maybe 6-7 years no success went to fertility drs and put me on clomid in the previous yrs...and no success so quit seeing them and moved on.... So now i am thinkin perhaps this high blood sugar has put the block on possible pregnancies. i dont know too much about this met but happy to find out this could help. I know every1 is different but hoping this would help us out. I hv 2 children already which were naturally concieved but this time around we find it much harder. I do want at least one more child since i am now 33 soon to 34. Hope this works like reading some of the success stories...also i didnt have any side affects...takin the dosage i am on...any advice is fine with me...thanks

Hello all,

I have been taking metformin since january 2010,3 a day the doctor prescribed..in may i got discouraged and stopped taking it and ended up not having a period till august when i resumed using it. I vowed to keep on taking it as to not have such a painful period again. By september I started waiting for my period but did not really bother when it wasn't on time. You see its never on time, so I thought nothing of it. The whole of september went and no period so I assumed I just missed having jus started back on the metformin. October began and it was nearing mid October I start feeling sick...my stomach was sick and I was always hungry and throwing up. Yet still I thought nothing of it because in the past I had rushed to do pregnancy tests and I was sadly disappointed by the results. I did not want to take the test when my husband brought it home but i mustered up the courage and took it. Let me tell you all this, after seeing a negative line all the time...I was completely stunned to see 2 lines appearing. I had to take 3 more tests to believe it. I'm Pregnant!! My husband and I have only been married a year now and we have been trying since then, but I have had PCOS since I was 19 and i'm now 25. Going to the doctor was nerve wrecking, but seeing the baby was the most joyous feeling ever. The doctor advised me to keep taking the metformin atleast for the next month. I am now 9 weeks pregnant and very healthy. Thank God. This is my first pregnancy so i;m very excited. What can I say to all you folks out there on metformin, it works differently for everyone and I think patience is needed. I know there are time you will feel like it will never happen but trust me it will. Keep saying your prayers and having faith that is important. I wish everyone the best of luck XOXO
