pregnancy after vaectomy reversal?

My husband had a vasectomy reversal appr. 15 years after his vasectomy; the professor who performed the surgery didn't give us much hope as he said that he could not find any sperm neither at the place where it had been cut nor further 'down' in the epididymis - all they found was some toothpaste like stuff which he said will not allow the sperm to get through safely.
Has anybody had this same outlook and knows nything about it as to if there might still be a chance or if there is any medication or possibility how we could still be hoping to have a child of our own?
